Any other suggestions on speakers/amp for a budget of $300.00? Thanks
Will not work.

Stock setup is as follows:
Dash speakers - mid/high run off stock HU
Door speakers - woofers ONLY run through an amp in the trunk that FILTERS mid/high frequencies.

The guy who recommended it had an aftermarket HU, likely running these through the aftermarket HU directly.

From what I understand about the stock audio system, your best bet on your budget is to get a set of components that will fit the dash and not touch doors, or a set of components w/ woofer/midrange in door and tweeter in dash and all stock front speakers. Both will likely need to be run off a small amp, but can be done in your budget if you're doing all the labor.

Last option would be to locate and remove stock amp, replace with regular 2ch amp, use that to drive full range door speakers.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, I'd be able to use the factory wiring with the speakers if I use that speaker connector? The connection would be factory wiring - > speaker connector - > speakers?

Do this with ~$100.00 - $150.00 and keep your stock components. You'll be amazed

You are flat out wrong these speakers are running off the stock amp in the trunk. They don't require an additional amp or headunit and Im referring to the door speakers not the ones in the dash.

Are you sure? from what I understand, the door speakers are woofers only, and the factory amp has a low pass filter built into it. Unless you can disable the low pass filter, which I don't think you can.

Also, from Crutchfield website:
"The factory woofer(s) in [the doors] receive only bass frequencies from the amplifier. Replacement aftermarket speakers will only reproduce bass."

Looking at those speakers it looks like it has something that might require you stripping one side of the metra connector. But yea either way using the connector you unplug the speakers and plug in the new connector then plug that into the speakers. Its really simple when you see it.

Yea I'm pretty sure I just plugged these into where the stock speakers were no mods or anything to the headunit. So im certain they are powered by the amp only. Another guy on the forum is running the same speakers with a stock headunit and amp.

I also read somewhere that the door speakers are woofers that run off the stock amp. Would it be better sounding if I put in a 2 channel amp to run door speakers? Or a 4 channel amp to run door speakers and front deck speakers? I like my music cranked up while I'm driving. I don't wanna spend big bucks. My other Scion car stock audio sounded much better than the FRS.

Best option IMO is to replace dash and door speakers with a 2-way component speaker system, mounting the tweeter in the dash, and woofer in the door. Run it off a 2ch amp w/ speaker level inputs. The only problem is that this may be pushing your budget depending on if you want all new or can settle for used amps, and if you install it yourself (amp will require power cabling.

Although I haven't explored the possibility, it *may* be possible to utilize the stock amp wiring and location instead of running new wires for power and speakers.

It would work, but would likely be woofer frequencies only, tweeters would not be outputting any sound. I'd check to make sure by playing a high pitched test tone to see if you get sound from the doors.

Nope the tweeters are outputting sound, the higher frequencies are actually slightly over powering the bass. I see where you are coming from but considering I have both installed and did the work myself I can tell you they are plug and play.

That's weird. If that's the case, makes things easier. I'll have to look into this some more.

You have all stock wiring? Nothing changed from using the aftermarket Hu?

I used the metra connector I mentioned and thats about it. Headunit uses the all the standard wiring in the old one used, it was a plug and play.

Heres my headunit I have nothing special in terms of audio
