The boxer engine and Subie alliance was a much more deliberate choice to achieve a low CoG, not just Toyota didn't have any platform to build a sports coupe on. You can see this in videos and interviews with Tada. Toyota has more models than any other car manufacturer and it wouldn't have been difficult to turn one of them into a sports coupe. Your argument seems similar to those that perceive the 86 as some sort of automotive abortion rushed to market. I really don't see evidence of that. If you say so. Well, the I6 revival is based on the rise of powerful and capable turbo I4s. Guess what, Toyota is developing powerful I4's to replace the V6. Let's see how long the V6 lasts when it just makes more economic sense to make and assemble I4s derived from I6s or vice versa. The V8 has been under threat too recently so keep ing them around to lop off a few cylinders for a V6 might not make much sense anymore. Yes, Toyota has been working on V6TTs, they've also been working on a hybrid 86 and twin charged 86. Supra could get a V6, it could possibly not. Btw, Z4 is going to bigger man. There's supposedly a spot open for a smaller/cheaper roadster under the Z4. I'd prefer a Toyota I-6 to a BMW I-6 or Toyota V6. Though tbh, if it's not as capable as the 2zz-ge or close, well...tough sell. That heart is what made the Supra. |

@abraxis, sorry if I came off rude. I thought it was a good fun debate.
Anyways, there are 3 major auto shows coming up (Paris, LA, and MotorCity). So lets wait for some official news before we start jumping on each others back. |

I don't hate it, really. It's different, and its grown on me a bit. But I just don't see it passing crash regulations. The FT-HS and the DS4 have more prominent noses on the front, but not nearly as dramatic or spear-like. |

It was NS4, not DS4, sorry. yup, i think if they really really want to keep the nose than it would have to be tone down to the scale of the FT HS and NS4. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'd be down with that if the environmental gods and bean counters allow Toyota to get away with it. I'd also hope for $60K it's mounted behind the front axle and has a torquetube running to a rear mounted transmission. Hate to see GM and the Corvette have all the fun.

plus the UR series isn't even that old yet. it was introduce in 2006. Toyota used the old UZ series for about 20 years before dropping it. |

http://www.daimler.com/dccom/0-5-138...0-0-0-0-0.html What autos could get away with in the past has nothing to do with future regulations. The 86 only makes 200hp because of emissions targets. |

If they are going to title the car as the next supra, they need to equip it with a straight 6 in order to stay consistent with the car's lineage.
Toyota needs to name it something different if their plan is to power it with anything other then that. |

I hope the FT-1/Supra isn't such a porker as the RC F, which according to Lexus will weigh almost 4000lbs.

I'm sure it delivers the goods, but is it really twice as nice as an IS300? I'll have to drive one to see. It's an interesting car, no doubt, and comes standard with pretty much everything needed to hold it's own at a track day. Autoweek likes it: http://autoweek.com/article/car-revi...pe-first-drive |
