I note that out of the heated garage, on a very cold day, I can pull some truely crazy acceleraton (traction limited, due to cold pavement). Warm batteries, and cold air are the best combo.
No surprise really. Wanted to put my summer tires on this weekend, but we had a forcast of snow coming over the next couple of days... it snowed.I really want to see what I can hook-up with proper tires,... these snow tire things are great on snow, but cruddy everywhere else.

I've been thinking about the upcoming options and have questions for @Robftss -
1.) With the 1.x5 battery, what happens when the .5 depletes? Does it trip the protection? 2.) With the 1.5x and 2x battery options, does it take twice as long to recharge? 3.) This may be a stupid question but any way to configure the setup to switch between race and street mode where race mode would use one set of batteries until depleted then switch to the other set? In essence doubling the battery run time but only at the single pack power? Thanks in advance!

1. No. With the 1.5 dump pack you get 50 percent more capacity. the original dump and the additional .5 sync up to act like one big battery. Because the individual mass of all the batteries is small they heat up quick and dump charge better than just getting a larger Amp Hour battery. 2. If you could deplete the 1.5 dump it would take longer to charge, same goes for the 2.0 but with the added capacity it gets harder and harder to deplete them on the street. The addition of the aux charger is very beneficial with the 1.5 and the 2.0 because not only do you have more capacity it also recharges at 4:1 instead of 8:1. 3. This would be very complicated as you would need a switching mechanism. In this case you are best to go to the dual dump and dual recharge.... that is going to be good for 99% of scenario's....Remember that this system is not meant to be always on. The track does not allow for the 4:1 recharge to fill the battery back up when not on the throttle. Hope that helps

They actually allow for more stable dump of current to the motor, increasing the effect PSI the compressor puts out as the voltage droop is much lower. |

Any idea of pricing regarding the Aux charger and add pack for extra battery?

Makes sense. My bad. More battery capacity means it takes longer to deplete but still have to charge.

I went ahead and purchased the cooling mod materials. I ended up purchasing the following:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/HPS-SSTC-76-84-76mm-Stainless-T-Bolt/dp/B0058W7X0A/ref=zg_bs_15710721_16"]Amazon.com: HPS (SSTC-76-84) 76mm - 84mm Stainless Steel T-Bolt Clamp for 2-3/4" Hose: Automotive[/ame] [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Allstar-ALL42141-Single-Plastic-Cooling/dp/B006K8K8HG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397621501&sr=8-1&keywords=brake+duct"]Amazon.com: Allstar ALL42141 Black 5" x 9-3/4" Single Hole Offset Plastic Brake Cooling Duct: Automotive[/ame] and last: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Allstar-ALL42150-Black-Brake-Duct/dp/B006K8KBK0/ref=pd_bxgy_auto_text_y"]Amazon.com: Allstar ALL42150 Black 3" x 10' Brake Duct Hose: Automotive[/ame] I actually don't need the full length of ducting so @nlowell and I are splitting the tubing. It looks like its going to be fairly straightforward with little issues. I'll take pictures as I install the mod. And I will take surface temperatures of the controller before and after the mod. We probably won't get definitive proof of concept until nlowell goes back on the track, but at least we will have some baseline. I will also be receiving the 1.5 battery upgrade mod soon. I do not have the dual rechargers so I will just be testing with 8:1 recharging time which should not be an issue on the street. I'll be posting my impressions of that as soon as I receive all the parts, but I did already purchase the batteries.

1.5 dump adds power by holding a higher voltage and a bit more current. It does not add to the duty cycle of the system. Recharge time will be similar since the boost event will be slightly shorter for the same acceleration. SLA's are self regulating so discharge and recharge is appropriate to the capacity. Aux charger increases duty cycle...charge rate is ~5:1 ideal. For track use, push to pass or KERS is possible. For use, continuous , on a road course would require significantly more capacity and significantly more controller duty cycle....at that point I suggest the 5K + track upgrades mods needed conventional FI setup. Realistic improvements will come along as this develops. Thanks! Rob. |

Holy mother of torque have you guys seen what the tq250 with a single dump does to a mx5?
Vishnu just tuned one... Imagine a 2300 pound car with this kind of torque curve!!!! New saying should be "What can Phantom Sc and OFT do for you?" A lot apparently. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk |
