The 26.X V reading is just indicating the charging system is working beyond ~ 10% duty cycle...the charge voltage is dropped ~ 1.5V to account for heating of the batteries to keep them under the gassing voltage. Boost is still @~95% and you can continue to use it normally...if you continue hard driving the 2nd failsafe, shut down, occurs and resets in 2-10 seconds. There are many variables so this is approximately what happens.

I have tested the control unit outside the engine bay (behind the grill) on my test vehicle to expose it to direct moving air... it delays the 26.X significantly...this position is more complicated to achieve in the FT86.

The future Aux charger splits the recharge time and therefore the heat generated to extend the 26.X trip.

Lots of testing to do to confirm gains are real, not just calculated

Ok so based on what rob said the venting should help but we don't know how much. I'll see what I can do on my end to get the parts. @nlowell any chance you are going to snag the parts? I can help you install.

Another nice bonus of getting the auxiliary charger.

I love mine with the 1.5 dump pack!

This is the ideal placement, either side of the intake snorkel just in front of the radiator support. Far away from water splashes etc, but getting lots of cool air and separated from the engine bay heat. It's a bit of a hassle getting at this area yes, but you can reach in there without taking off the whole front bar, maybe attach with a bracket to the existing snorkel mounting point?

Not yet. I think I can get cheaper prices. Just did a quick search. But I will.

Mentioned this approach to Rob a few months ago as an alternative prior to the controller redesign. Remember this adds more cost and complexity to the installation.

Stupid question, should I expect performance (more specifically the batteries) to be noticeably impacted by ambient temperatures? Took the car out for a few pulls (temp 40-45F) and it was certainly less peppy than the days before (55-65F).

Pretty sure the answer is yes, although I'm more curious by what margin performance would be impacted (10%/30%?).

You will get less current out of the system at lower battery temperatures. The catch there is because the air is cooler it is almost a wash as the performance increases due to cooler air.

I couldn't even wager a guess. If you push the system hard you should get the batteries up to temp and then you have the best of both worlds
