Whoever says you should drive it like a Yaris hasn't seen me drive my Vitz on autocross.
While I may not win my class, I don't finish last and I certainly beat out better cars with the Vitz all on stock ... everything. Video here: [ame]http://youtu.be/y0uZJpGeEtg[/ame] Results here: http://www.wiredmotorsports.com/pitl/results.php I competed in the last three events of the season and got better with it (my first season with the car). As for the OP, I hope SOA steps up to the plate for this. Threads like this really are pushing me away from the twins and towards the MX5 or a used S2k. |

![]() $25k is a lot for a car. Why would anyone want to invest more in this thing than buying a Cayman? I can name several <$20k cars that can take full on abuse starting with my Yaris. At $25k this car had better hold up than Mustangs, Golf, Genesis, etc. And don't give me the this is a different kind of car BS. If a car can't get you back and forth to work reliably then everything is out the window. I think the main reason this car has been so successful is the Toyota+Subaru (Japan) branding, their rep is building bullet proof cars. If you're saying they failed at that and the car gets a bad rep, resale will tank and then the platform will go *POOF* IMHO. .

That's bs right there. It shouldn't matter if it's a $500 or a $500,000 car it's brand new!!! I understand that first year cars will have teething problems but stand behind the product, don't jut say too f#$king bad you get what u pay for. What irritates me is that I believe I found what could be the cause of this and Subaru and Toyota (aisin trans=Toyota btw) and the don't seem to care. I'll be really pissed if they come out with a redesigned trans later and don't offer it to the people who's trannys are already failing.

What about the South Africa TSB on injectors? It mentions shifting in less than .6 seconds if I recall correctly? Why would there be a TSB for an issue that involves "speed shifting" if it were considered abuse? |

My BRZ has had 31 warranty claims (including the free maintenance), nothing denied...it's not a Scion vs Subaru issue.

My main problem is apparently with a regional parts manager, but it's no secret the Subaru doesn't have the best warranty practices. You may just be lucky with your dealer and their region.

I would want to see an actual document from Subie or Scion defining exactly what "the normal conditions" are. Say... the car has 4 sits and I fit 3 250lbs bodies (somehow) and go to NYC downtown. is this considered normal? because I suspect my shocks would be shut after few hours of driving there. Quote:
well, I guess it depends on who's filing those 31 claims and what he does for living. Obviously, common folks are at the mercy of dealership and subaru/toyota reps. |

I think some GL-5 will corrode the brass synchros. Why do so many people on here claim a replacement tranny is $2500? My dealer wants over $6k ? Also when I bought this car everyone on here said this was a Toyota built transmission, people here and online reviewers were saying this is the best manual transmission short of BMW. First the main casting of the tranny says "Subaru" and it is far from any BMW I've owned, how could so many have been so far off base? Is there a difference between the manual transmission in the GT-86 vs the BRZ and Scion ? .

It may say Subaru on one side but on the other it says Aisin. When my dealer was trying to get me internal parts they had to call Lexus to get some of the part numbers. Gotta love joint venture cars lol.

Subaru recommends using Subaru Extra-S 75W90 fluid in the BRZ. It is a synthetic GL-5 gear oil, same as specified for the STI transmissions. Both transmissions use brass synchronizers...as do most. Never seen one that suffered from corroded synchronizers.
