Im one of the Sydney peeps using visconti's flex fuel. I plan to run e85 98% of the time, when it comes to holiday type drives or when i cant make it to e85 servo before i run out, i'll use 98.
One of the biggest advantages im findiing to the flex tune is that no servo's actually stock 85% ethanol, caltex is shit (they sell e-flex which can be e70 - 85) and the times ive filled up, it has been e70 on the dot. united is putting me between e79-82. If i were running an e85 map rather than flex. it would not be running e85 fuel

you're already off to a bad start... if you'd have checked in with me i could have told you that this is just embarrassing.
![]() Do you approach all logical arguments that disagree with the wise council of first year toyota mechanics with petty name calling or am i just special?

There was an interesting discussion that got cut very short in the FI section about damage to the fuel system (no mention of crickets) but physical damage to the fuel system potentially caused by E85.

^^ This.. but got canned cause it degenerated into name calling. Lol.
Although there was questions as to whether it was caused by the E85 or moreso by an octane booster. |

Well RAN94A (your Grand PooBah usernames is very fitting ) for me at least another random act has happened that coincided with changing from ethanol based fuel back to BP Ultimate unleaded. After a quarter of a tank of BP Ultimate the high pressure fuel pump noise has coincidently and randomly gone. So I hope it stays that way as I know some cars have the noise intermittently.
As for you statement about the “first year” Toyota mechanic. The guy I have been speaking to has over 20 years in the trade, including dyro workshops, specialist engine building and has worked on various vehicle brands he also worked on my rally car when he was at the dyno workshop. He has just rebuilt an 86 engine that dropped a valve (ouch after a thousand kms) which destroyed the internals of the engine. Anyway with mechanical items there is a “cause and effect” to a mechanical issue or fault. Be it a design fault, manufacturing issue or operating equipment outside of the design criteria. From my point of view and what the Service Bulletin stated “Some (pumps) may have a plunger stopper shape which in combination with certain fuel temperatures or fuel formulations, may result in aeration of the fuel within the body of the pump and cause this sound when the engine is idling” in my case it appears to be the ethanol fuel formulation as the ambient temperature and engine operating temperatures have remained simular. I’ll await another self-glorifying statement from you! |

Maybe ill be really sneaky and delete all of my ingorant posts.... and then spend the better part of a day trying to think of something smart and meaningful to say. Then once i've figured out what i want to say ill spend another couple of hours with a thesaurus replacing some of the words with bigger ones to make me look like i know what im talking about. Or maybe i wont... I dunno, just doesnt feel like my style.

LOL..well done mate!
You are right I did over react to your miss guided posts and I apologise to the other members. I should have said just said in the title “Warning against using ethanol based fuels" instead of "don't use Ethanol based fuels" and that way I would not have upset your Royal Highness. I did want to delete the whole topic as it wasn't adding value but could only delete my posts. Oh sorry for using big words! And you do have a great style. XXX Quote:

Shhhh @fuddbutter. You'll ruin my courting, we're just starting to estabilish a connection.
he likes my style. Also i appreciate the apology, Andrew. My inept ability to interpret your big words was actually making my brain hurt. As i understand it i put dinosaurs in my car to make the wheels go as a byproduct of fire some sort of fire... Who says we're more advanced than cavemen ay. So i guess some cricket noises may just be residual screams from their remains being combusted. I'm taking the car to this fangdangled computer wizard this afternoon. I'll see if he can cast a spell which allows him to understand why these fossils scream. (PS: Judging by the amount of thanks on all of my posts thus far in your thread i daresay there might just be one or two people who appreciate my "bullshit royal poobah expert opinion") |

I tried half a tank of BP Ultimate over the weekend & I still got the rattle ! I really didn't think changing was going to make the slightest difference tbh :/ We just gotta wait for TMC to come up with a new pump design for those that want it. The more we complain the quicker it will be done.
