Agree. Toyota recommend 98 Ron and the handbook states that 95 can be used without detriment to the engine if necessary but not sure how they will react if they know that 100 has been put in. Will be interesting to see how it works out.

get flex fuel sensor. Issue resolved. I ran it on E85 from United for awhile and there was no issue.
Reason went back to 98. No map. really nice. Waiting for new E85 map.

Just curious, did the issue go away when you switch back to non-ethanol 98? Or is the damage irreversible and requires new HPFP?

i suggest you go back and check again because it implicitly states that 98 or higher is optimal however the engine can be run without detriment on 95 octane however it will not run at maximum performance.

I am also reasonably sure it states in there that fuel with up to 10% ethanol is fine to use too..

There are several boys in sydney running E85 without issue. The crickets on the other hand is a known issue even in circumstances where people havent touched ethanol.

Its just a coincidence IMO

Personally I have never used any fuel mixed with ethanol, only Shell VPower, yet I still have the crickets and according to my Toyota tech "it is what it is" a Toyota designed HPFP & nothing can be done to correct the issue atm :/

I would also not recommend the use of ethanol mixed fuels due to a school of though amongst mechanics & technical experts that it accelerates corrosion of the fuel system !

My point is; why shouldnt people use ethanol blended fuel? Because you used it and had the cricket issue (that is already a known issue and as ZZT86 demonstrates, not neccessarily associated with ethanol in any way.)

The car is stated as fine to operate with fuels containing up to 10% ethanol which the united 100 octane does. Your thread as it stands is invalid.
Maybe you should look into the numerous "what is causing the cricket noise" threads before providing us with your expert diagnosis.

RAN94B so sorry I was only repeating what the Toyota mechanic told me and two other mechanics that I spoke to. The SERVICE BULLETIN stated that "certain fuel temperatures or fuel formulations" cause the issue …. so thank you for providing us with your BULLSHIT expert diagnosis.

I will check with you first before I post next.
