I know its a different engine style but if we could get peak torque lower I think it would work well.
Full spool on most of the low PSI kits on here are hitting at about 2500rpm.

Only difference between these turbo's and the VW ones is we aren't running out of steam in the top end.

Do you know how bad it feels to be in a gti/a4/speed3 that falls flat on its face at 4000 rpm?!

When you hit peak power at 4000rpm it is all downhill from there, some cars are worse than others.

For a commuter car like a a4 sure this is more acceptable but for a perfomance/sports car this is certainly not a desired trait.

Sure if you used a tiny turbo you could get peak power at 2000 rpm but you would tail off power on the top end quite a bit once the turbo becomes a restriction.

See attached dyno's for a look at what a small turbo means for the top end.

Thanks guys i've had some turbo cars but they were oem, VW GLI and Sonata Turbo. I guess i would be looking for something like AVO posted on the 2.5 Impreza.

GTI's turbo full boost kicks in at 1,800 rpm and it holds.
I love it.

Although the GTI is much better than a Speed 3 it certainly doesn't hold it indefinetly.

Peak power is at about 5000 rpm when torque and power start falling off to the 6500rpm redline.

The small turbo discussion is going on good, GTI's vs Speed3, etc... I wonder if we could get back on topic now
@AVOturboworld, any update on turbo selection?

Our turbocharger kits for the 2.5i Impreza's looked basically like this:

The dyno doesn't show the onset of boost, but road tuning shows the magic starting to happen at 1500rpm. Peak is reached relatively early at 2800rpm, and it plateau'd till 6400rpm, where the 2.5i's start getting in reach of their redline.

Now - this is not the 2.0-liter BRZ motor! It's just an example. The 12:1 compression, different combustion chamber design, and higher rev limit/available power band means different results and different setups. With the turbocharger up front and right off the exhaust manifold, though, it will probably respond quicker and may get to peak torque sooner.
If you can make the 86 do the same results as that graph i will hand my money over right now!

@AVOturboworld , keep up the good work guys. Very impressed. Is the throttle response dulled on your turbo?

Me personally would rather have lag and great top end than vise versa
Boost is only a downshift away

I missed most parts of the thread.

I read it quickly.

Can anyone tell me:

What turbo AVO are going to use?

Any upgrade choice in the future for the turbo?

Most importantly, do they keep the stock cat?

Thank you.

I think the turbo is top secret still.
