Getting back to the states and seeing this
Went through a few threads and found some good nuggets.

From what he shared with me, the only thing that is changed by the seal failure update is the transient ignition retard table and activation rpm. At least that is all that has been found so far.

Transient Retard is retarding ignition timing during quick throttle lift (like fast shifting). Stock, TR is not enabled over 5,000 rpm and even if it were the table is zeroed out above 4000 RPM. The new software just moves the deactivation point up to 10,000 RPM and fills in table values above 5600 rpm.

I would also like to thank @DrSUTRA for posting up the pics and documentation about the update.

I Think this update needs to be pushed to ALL cars. The simple fact is, with the transient retard setup like it is from the factory, there is the potential for ALL cars to have this problem at one time or another. All it takes is a bad tank of gas. Now, how many det events does it take to burn out the seal... that is another question.

Software Update and bulletin with describes the issue. It appears Toyota acknowledges there is an issue.

This makes a lot of sense to me

There are other conditions to be sure but the fix is to change ECU parameters to eliminate the potential conditions which cause this knocking.
ITS KNOCK CAUSED BY YOUR TUNER that CAUSED your injector seal to fail. PERIOD

Few youtubes in the middle of that page of the sound that may be caused by the O-ring failing

I did ask @Jeff@Perrin and @Chris@Perrin about it. They just sent me a new tune for the Vortech system which they say should prevent the issue. I may listen for a few days before flashing to see if I have it. I haven't heard anything unusual so I don't think I have it fortunately.

I never got a CEL the 2nd time my 2nd DI starting leaking. Only CEL I got was P0351 a day before the first one starting popping under moderate acceleration.

I'm NA, with a Perrin CAI

Soshite e85 ne? I know we aren't blaming e85 yet, but if it's involved it should be listed.

can anyone explain why there is detonation during this On-Off-On situation during upshifting from high rpm?

That doesnt sound good to me then... O well.

If I knew about this issue I would of refrained myself from shifting where I shifted and rather taken that corner slower. Just like what Robi said, I knew exactly where it happened after I read about the shifting and on and off throttle.

Sorry to hear about this!

Would you mind detailing the scenario so that others can maybe avoid doing it?

Because it takes a short time delta for the ECU to measure load again once you quickly drop the clutch. During this delta, the spark angle is too advanced which causes the transient det. The transient spark table is designed to interpolate between the old and future spark angle during a gear change.

My scenario is Streets of Willow turn three going counter clockwise (aka the fish bowl) so entering it I am at 2nd gear and I hit redline there. If I dont shift I bounce around redline, if I shift to 3rd I get maybe around another few mph before I have to brake and shift down back to 2nd. If I stay in third, I dont have enough power since it is uphill after that. So here is an example of the on and off throttle while shifting down up down which is said to have caused the issue.

I see thanks RAWR!

You are on stock tune? I am wondering how much damage I have done to my seals after the 5-6 track days I have done already this summer...

I haven't gotten any factory flashes yet and I bought the car last July.

I've done zero track days and mine are toast...

At Subaru, we build each of our vehicles with the highest standards of manufacturing, and with designs that are inherently tough and resilient. It’s why our vehicles excel in the most rigorous of motorsports, like rally racing. And why 96% of all the vehicles we’ve built in the last 12 years are still on the road today. It’s also why Subaru owners are so likely to stay Subaru owners for years and years. What’s more, keeping cars on the road means they stay out of landfills longer. Sorry Subaru, you can't sell someone a machine that you market as reliable high performance, and then deny warranty when the customer uses said performance.
They're currently trying to deny warranty coverage on our engine because the vehicle was "used for competition". Lets not forget that our engine, and entire drivetrain for that matter, is stock. No headers, cat deletes, midpipes, intakes, or even a "sound pipe delete".
