Help with Ecutek install

I'm trying to install the ecutek software on a Win8.1 laptop (maybe my problem?)

Install starts fine but when I'm prompted to plug the cable into the computer nothing happens, nothing.

Is the light on the cable supposed to light up? Is the cable supposed to be plugged into the car as well? Is my cable fried?

I looked up some tutorials to delete the driver and start over but it doesn't look like the cable is even showing up in the device manager.

Any thoughts?

ps. I don't have the license or tune yet as I wanted to get all set before purchase for this exact reason.

You don't need to be in the car or have the license to install. I have recently "upgraded" to Win8.1 and I had no issues installing on mine.

From scratch (apologies if you already know this), download the ECUtek app downloader from here: http://www.ecutek.com/Support/Downloads
Follow the install procedure, it should install the drivers 1st for the hardware. Then plug in the cable and dongle when requested.

Did you get the audio that you connected a USB device? What type of USB port are you using? I can't remember if the LED came on until the drivers installed. I've used USB 2 and 3, 3 is preferable for flashing speeds.

Might be worth giving the laptop a full reset.

I'm running it on Win 8.1 no issues here. Just uninstall the driver/software and try again. Don't plug the cable in until the driver is installed/updated

I did not plug the cable in until the install as suggested. I also tried to delete the driver but one wasn't present. I suspect it's either a computer problem or my cable it's dead.

I'll start with a reinstall of win 8.1or maybe see if my old laptop will run long enough to try and install it.

I'm not sure if you're having the same thing happen that I did but while I was trying to install on my laptop it did not seem to be doing anything either. What it ended up being was that I had to wait about 3/4 min. for it to pop anything up, and when it did it popped up another box in the background that I had to mess with. You can try Alt+Tab after a bit to see if there is another window behind the installer.

Sorry I should have followed this up. It was an issue with the laptop. Basically when I tried to install it the usb ports weren't functioning correctly. I've since successfully installed them on another computer.
