FR-S LED DRL to Foglight Conversion

So I have an FR-S that came with the dealer option of those horizontal LED strip DRL's in the turn signal/bezel area. I have ordered a Diode Dynamics fog light kit, and I want to bounce some ideas off anyone who cares to chime in.

My plan is to, instead of splicing the fog light signal (on/off) wires to the headlights as they suggest (which would mean my fogs would be on anytime the headlights are on - don't want), I will splice my fog light wires to the DRL wires of the old LEDs, and just tape off the actual plugs.

My thought is that since there is an independent switch to turn the LED DRL's on and off, regardless of e-brake/headlight/etc., the fog lights should then be controlled by that switch instead once they are installed in place of the LEDs.

So tell me - is my logic flawed, or will this theoretically work ok? I'm no electrician, so I'm going based off my limited understanding of such issues. If anyone has thoughts on it, I'd appreciate any advice.
