2.5" EL ZERO drone ZERO rasp full NA exhaust combo - please help
I am requesting help for finding a exhaust combo for me. The issue is, that I am located in Europe and all parts will be imported for massive shipping and income tax, so I cannot afford fuck this up.
![]() Goals and project info - car will stay NA, or, if ever I will go PD supercharger. 100% never turbo. So I want 2.5" - main goal is to eliminate the torque dip and have linear smooth power delivery with no significant bumps in power - secondary goal is to have nicer sporty sound since the stock car has no sound. That being said: -- I like "full" / "smooth" / "scream" sound of EL, and I dislike the rumble, so I want to go EL route. -- my car is DD and I do long trips (500 km no problem) so the setup must be completely drone and rasp FREE. And I really mean that, this is my no.1 requirement. -- Volume and tone should be intelligent. I don't mind louder on WOT, but should be livable really in town and long trips and I don't want too loud in general. I prefer nice tone than dB. -- The car shouldn't smell. If you are pulled by police here and they have a suspicion that you decated your car, your car can be confiscated. Nobody will say anything about the sound if intelligent level, but the smell is no-no here. So I am probably looking for 2 HFCs. I red tons of posts and seen tons of videos, and from what I learned my current best bet is: - JDL EL catted header - 2.5" JDL ultra-quiet over/midpipe - Invidia Q300 catback Problem - I haven't found anybody with this setup, so I have no idea if it works What do you think? If anybody has a different setup or idea, I would be delighted. Basically any info/video on catted ELs would be helpful. Thanks! |

To get this done properly, you'll want to start with something that sounds good to you and is reputable (thinking Perrin 2.5 resonated or Q300) and then add resonators into the mix until you are happy with the drone/rasp. I recommend vibrant. I spent a lot of time at multiple shops to end up with a setup with what i consider zero drone/rasp. It's tough to get 'zero rasp' out of this boxer engine while still maintaining an exciting engine note that has some beef to it. Just my 2c. |

The JDL ultra-quiet frontpipe isn't any quieter than stock, and sounds the same to my ears (and is very expensive). It is great if you NEED larger diameter piping than stock, but most don't (even those who are supercharged). |

My setup, P&L EL catted header, Greddy SP Elite, stock everything else. Sounds awesome, no drone, terrific build quality/fitment, reasonably priced.

I have the Corsa exhaust, They actually had my car for 3 weeks with a bunch of sound equipment in it to develop the exhaust. You can have a conversation at speed no problems. It is designed around stock header overpipe and down pipe. Changing those will effect the final outcome but it is probably the most quiet exhaust out there

Your problem is you're trying to piece together individual parts from different vendors that don't necessarily work well with each other.
The front pipe affects noise the most. After that is the cat in the header. Apex'i header/OP/front pipe setup works well as a single unit. Has a cat and is actually just as quiet as stock with stock muffler... no smell either, however this will greatly depend on what tune you have. FWIW the Apex'i setup is street legal in Japan and comes with emissions certificate. mav1178: do you happen to know if apexi with it's secondary O2 bung after frontpipe cat can work w/o disabling cat readiness checks in tune and not throw CELs?

Any EL with stock exhaust should be nice. EL gives the linear sound. The stock exhaust keeps the volume and drone away.

Then adding extra bung to stock front pipe (with catless header of course) seems to me better option then using spacers, if they managed to pull it off with stock tune. Not only it's less cell count HFC, not stock cat, but also located further downstream, yet didn't trigger CELs.

If you want no drone, keep the stock cat back and you can change everything else to whatever you want.

I'd say a good quality EL header and keep the stock everything else.

Regarding keeping the stock midpipe a catback, I am not against it per say, but I have to admit that wanted to change the second cat for HFC. But yeah, if I found anybody who have catted EL + stock and will sound good and dyno is good than I am all for it. |

I have a full 3" from them (nameless header) and it's not drone or rasp free at WOT, but it's quiet for what it is... Increasing diameter always makes it harder to keep levels down. |
