Rubber plugs for side sills

So after I drove my new FR-S home a few days ago, I noticed a package in the glove compartment. It says "To Pre-Delivery Inspector," Insert these rubber plugs into the holes of the side sills. I just thought they were extra pieces not used but curiosity got the best of me so I googled "rubber plug side sill" and found this link (BRZ forum):
http://www.**************.com/9-suba...ill-plugs.html

The dealer didn't install them during the PDI. If you look under your car just in front of the rear wheels (under the door area) you will see where these plugs go (see pic below). The BRZ forum describes what they are used for but you have to register on the site to see the pics. I took these photos myself. In any case, if you do find these plugs in your car still in the package...you now know where they go!

Be careful and wear gloves as there is a lot of grease and lubrication around the hole.

From the BRZ forum: (These plugs are simply a body fill plug. They are part of a standard PDI process to install before delivery. It is always a toss up to where they get installed or not. All they do is plug the frame rail holes. Some of us dont install them because if water gets in the frame rail it wil lhave no where to exit promoting rust and corrosion. Its more of a catch 22. If the plugs are there water shouldnt be able to get in. Its all personal preference to whether or not you want them in. I do know the holes are there for transport purposes for when they are tied town to the boats for shipping and for the transport trucks to deliver them. Thats why the plugs are not installed until they arrive at the dealer. )

Different car, but same story.

My wife and I bought a used 2007 Camry in 2010. Guess what I found just a few days ago in the glove box, underneath the original window sticker?

Yep, did these for a customer's BRZ because the PDI inspector overlooked them.

I assume if the plugs aren't in the glove box then there is a good chance that they are already installed ?

Lean under your car and look. It doesn't take special tools to bend over...they are clearly visible by just looking.

If they aren't there, go back to your dealer or any Toyota/Subaru dealer and ask for them.

I looked and I also felt the rubber on the passenger side .. I'll have to check the driver side later

Yeah, that's it. My dealer, Toyota One of Oakland, managed to get one right and one wrong. It also took four visits to the dealer to get the USB port working. Such is life.

Mine were missing completely and there were none in the glove box. Ended up buying a pair and installing myself. Part number is SU003-02911. IIRC they were a couple of dollars each but the dealer didn't charge me when I told them they were supposed to be part of the pre-delivery prep.

Not my dealer's fault, car was sourced from a different dealer who failed to install them. Everything else was done fine so no complaints.

One in the correct hole. One in the wrong hole, jammed in.

Kind of like a movie I once saw...
