Perrin CBE with resonator

Hey guys !

I have the Perrin CBE WITHOUT a resonator on my 86 which I love the sound of especially under acceleration, however I now drive this car everyday & I'm finding it a little too noisy going uphill. On flat roads it's just fine.

I would love to hear the difference a resonator would make & perhaps swap that pipe. I don't want it to be stock quiet though. If any of you resonated guys live in Melbourne somewhere I would appreciate if we could meet up for a little sound test session.

Don't have fb :/ Muffler/tips are in the Perrin box, the mid resonated pipe is hung in my garage, could be there forever :/

If you have the perrin resonated midpipe why not just bolt it on and see if you preffer the sound?

Na - I meant I have the OEM Toyota exhaust in the box & hanging in the garage not the Perrin midpipe. In the clips there doesn't appear to be much of a difference in dB but I'm sure it's more than that. I've read many times the resonator makes a big difference. I may just end up getting that resonated pipe & trying it then sell the one I don't need.

Before that I may just sound deaden that back half of the car to see what diff in dB I get coming in.

@ZZT86 why not just get your local exhaust shop to add a resonator to your Perrin midpipe? Or go for a good quality 4" or 5" round muffler (i.e. Magnaflow) it will really clean up the sound nicely. I had similar problems with a custom catback (unresonated midpipe with straight flow rear muffler) in my previous car, and simply adding a 5" round muffler to the midpipe made a world of difference.

Yeah might actually be cheaper to do that than buying a Perrin resonated pipe but I don't wana muck around with it in case it turns out too quiet & then having to fix it. I really like the sound it makes, it's just that sometimes going uphill with the windows closed it becomes a little bit too much.

You could go with a smaller 4" round muffler instead of 5", but I don't think even with the 5" it's going to make it sound too quiet. It's still just a straight through design but should be just enough to do the trick.

In my case even after adding the 5" muffler on the midpipe the exhaust still had a nice deep tone, but without the drone associated with certain rpm's and high loads.

It varies depending on type/brand. I've previously had a 5" round Magnaflow fitted for approx $250. Your local exhaust shop should be able to get you some pricing
