PRE turbo kit (garrett GT3076R)

So I finally made my FI decision today after riding along the PRE shop car, to put a down payment on the FI turbo kit that PRE is offering.

I will be running low boost until I gradually build up the supporting mods. Initially it will be 5 or 7 psi, and their stock shop car pulled 288whp. With me being an auto, and not having a 3in exhaust (2.5in), I think realistic numbers will be around 240whp. More than enough on my shitty tires, and crappy PNW weather.

It is not IC'd, but with such low boost, they didn't see IAT's over 101F after countless hard dyno pulls. Most temps were around 98F I guess. Of course once we start cranking up the boost, we will need an IC. There will be more updates to this kit as spring/summer comes along. I like it that I can work in steps, since I am more of a progression mod guy.

Next step will be WMI. Then to IC.

The setup they have is no BOV for low boost, external waste gate dump, and the intake will be modified to be fitted inside the front bumper rather than sucking the hot air from the engine bay (current setup). The exhaust manifold is an EL (but not 100% EL). The turbo is the Tomioka turbo housing Garett GT30R ball bearing. The fact that they don't have an IC right now, the boost kicks in much sooner and essentially no boost lag. This will change once the IC will go in. With such low boost, the turbo isn't working hard at all, and the temps are not rising to dangerous levels.

I'm sure many of you guys saw the dyno sheet on FB, but with such smooth power delivery, it almost feels like a SC. full boost at 3600rpm, peak torque at 3800rpm. Very drivable, and good for drifting.

Main reason I chose this kit was convenience and most likely reliability. This is their inhouse kit, with their name on it. They will stand by it. Also they are 20 minutes away from me. I will miss the UEL boxer sound, but apparently its not so great with a FI build (exhaust pulse etc.).

They will showcase the shop BRZ at that toy drive thing on Friday, unfortunately I will be gone so I cannot attend. Hope you guys get a chance to take a look at it, and see what you think!

No problem ..... just tell her the new sound is coming from "boring out" sound generator; the boost gauge is simply measuring manifold pressure and the extra power is coming from a less restrictive, drop in air filter .....

The down side is, if/when she finds out, after you are married ..... it will cost you a whole house full of new furnature ....

Good choice. I was going to go in that direction originally, but with an IC (PRE doing all the work). Obviously I chose a diff plan.

If Nick sells me his supercharger then I'll join the exclusive club but he hasn't made up his mind yet.

Sounds good. Plus if you beat his price then I'll buy yours instead.

He never did say where his problems came from so I will obviously ask him about that first. I'm limited on the $ I can spend so buying a used one for $500-$1500 less would be ideal, but yes I have considered just buying a new one with intercooler but my debt to income wouldn't be happy with that.

A word on hiding mods from your Lady, don't do it unless you like the car more than her

Good luck on the new set up, I saw the shop car last week

Ok.. As long as you are willing to be patient until the bigger blower gets released in the US (hoping January).
