Do you think this will hurt resale value even more?
Do you think the report will hurt resale value even more? http://www.autoblog.com/2013/10/28/c...ability-japan/
Just food for thought because it will come up when people search for the vehicle or those that rely on this magazine for input. |

Reports are one thing. People's perceptions of the brands are often more powerful and tend to sway people more when purchasing. Hyundai has improved leaps and bounds and makes one hell of a car for the money. Go ask the average person what they think of Hyundai and they will still tell you it's a cheap Korean car. Hyundai is backing dump trucks of money into the office of their marketing department to try to convince people otherwise. IT"S HARD.
Brands like Toyota and Honda know they can charge a small premium for their brand and association with reliability. I'm not a Toyota fanboi of anything, but there is a reason they sell a metric ton of cars and have insane resell values. If you bought your car for re-sell value, you bought the car for the wrong reason because most cars are depreciating assets. Just drive it and enjoy. |

If you bought a 95 supra, it is still of value as of now. I agree with cars being depreciating assets, but not all |

Niche sports car that didn't sell that well helps. The Supra was almost $78k adjusted for inflation. I think they same will happen to the S2000, not the FRS. It's too affordable.

I agree. Hyundai is a very very interesting brand to study. Look at all those that came in and tried to do what they have done and failed so badly. Look at all the failed brands that are out there are you'll start to see how good of a job they've been doing. Who remembered the Hyundai brand 10 years ago? What happened to Mitsubishi and Saab? |

$25k sports cars aren't the best investment material. If you're looking for resale value, buy a Fiat Dino Spider or Lancia Delta Integrale. I agree with almost all the previous comments. (I'm still a little biased against Korean cars if I'm honest. My wife used to own an '09 Santa Fe, and her coworker just bought a 2013 Kia SUV that needs a new motor)

Look at how our cars are driven compared to a granny's Corolla... It's a miracle the number of failures are as low as they are!

The only thing that report hurt was my crickets' feelings!!
I agree, enjoy the car! 3-4 years down the line you will find a youngster that will be willing to part with 10k for your twin.

this car has a cult following and millions arent roaming the roads. Its not going to reach supra or skyline territory but i think 10-15 years from now a clean, well taken car of FR-S/BRZ will sell fairly well.

No... It's not going to hurt resale value.. This is a niche kind of car..
If someone wants reliable transportation they will buy a Camry or a Corolla or something similar. Those looking for fun and enjoyment and a purists type approach are going to get this kind of car and will ignore all the BS from Consumer Reports and other mainstream reviewers. This car will be one of the best sports cars around and the best value for a long time to come. |

I don't think it will hurt resale value, but I do think Toyota and Subaru need to get off their ass and fix some of the issues like crickets that have been around for over 18 months now. Until they do, people will continue to ding the car.
I will say that my car has only had cricket issues to date. Otherwise it has been rock solid. |
