Check engine after drifting
Hi,
I've encountered a weird issue. I was drifting with a low RPM (¬4K in AVG, sometime hit 6-7K for "fixes" but in general around 4RPM) for a relatively long time (maintained ¬2-3 minutes drift with couple of seconds stop between each drift, for around 20 minutes) and suddenly check engine light was on. I'm after oil service, checked oil level - was good, oil temperature was only slightly higher than regular drive (~around 140) . Tried to turn the car off and start again, check engine was still on. Turned the car off for around 20 minutes, started again - the light went suddenly off. Any ideas what can it be? Thanks, |

The car keeps track of differences in wheel speeds. When you put a car on a dyno where the front wheels are not turning, but the rear wheels are it'll often throw a check engine light.
This could be a similar to the situation you've described where you were drifting and the front wheel speed was probably different than the rear wheel speed. Typically this check engine light will self-clear after a bit of "normal" driving where the wheel speeds match. There are at least 2 ways to determine if the check engine light is something to worry about: 1) Get a tool that will let you read the codes, and use the codes to figure out what is inducing the light. 2) Drive the car for a bit, if the check engine light is due to the differences in wheel speeds as I noted above, it'll auto-clear the check engine light after driving the car for a bit.
