FR-S - Changing Lights: Safe to trash signal lights?

I am getting new headlight and fog light assemblies and have a question about whether or not I can safely trash the stock signal lights. These are the headlights and fogs I'm getting:

My plan is to wire the orange lights in the headlight assembly into the turn signals and the fogs into the low beam. That said, is it safe to trash the stock signal lights and use a cover instead, or can I trash the stock signals, and run headlight/side marker, or run headlight/stock signal?

For that matter, what are the side marker lights even for? I've never seen them on...
