Should I buy an OFT300 Vortech Kit?
I love the idea of supercharged BRZ and it's been very tempting. Are there any reasons why I shouldn't? I DD the car, but have only 27k miles after 2 years. Why additional types of maintenance are involved for FI.
Thanks. |

Why not the OFT350 kit? I think it's cheaper, about $3500.00 for the kit if you already have an OFT.

I do already have the headers, but I truly haven't thought too much about the 350. It seems that there aren't too many details released about it atm, but its definitely something to consider.

Its a Speed by design kit with some additional components. Having the OFH has nothing to do with it as it would be replaced by the turbo manifold.

I ran the OFT300 for most of this summer. The vortech kit was used but has still been very reliable. The OFT software from shiv was well done. The car would give you no issues as a DD imo. Ive since upgraded fuel components and switched to ecutek but the OFT setup is a good way to get FI at a reasonable price.

Reasons why you shouldn't:
Reasons why you should:
As for the OFT300 specifically, I have such a package on my car - I bought it separately though, as Vishnu wasn't around when I got my Vortech charger. It's been on the car for about 2.5 years now, and I added the OFH/OFT about a year and a half ago. I had the ECUTek before that, but once I got the OFH, I figured I might as well get the deal with the OFT since Shiv had done extensive tuning work to get the entire package to work well together. Would I do it all over again? If I wanted to stay on the 86 platform, definitely. But in hindsight, I've dumped so much time and money into this car (not just on FI) that I probably should've just bought a more expensive car stock to begin with. I like working on cars, and I have all the tools and space to do it, but as I get older, I'm finding that I don't really enjoy it as much as I used to when I was a young man - next car I'm just going to bite the bullet and spend more to get one already the way I want it. |
