Toyo R1R

I've been tracking/autocross on Firestone Indy 500.

I found a set of 245/40/17 Toyo R1R for a really good price,

Is anyone running this tire on the track, especially autocross course?

I would love to hear your feed back, Im on the fence about getting them because my Indy 500 still have some life left in them.

R1R is a bit old of a tire design, but it's in an entirely different league compared to the Firehawks

Barely used but very old as well. They might not grip as well as you expect. Check the manufacturing date written on teh tire side, it might be 3 years from purchase date, but more from manufacturing.

DOT date was 2714. the age of the tire is also holding me back from making the purchase.

Personal opinion only (never ran them, but seen enough) only one or two sizes were zomg awesome tires. The ones you're looking at aren't that size. So, these ones weren't ever really first-rate tires. Good, but not front-of-pack. And prone to shorter competitive lives in the first place.

3 years is a long time to store a tire that's been used. I would wonder how much of the tire just aged away. Do you know how these tires were stored? In blankets, no sunlight, etc...?

All in all, it might not be the worst thing in the world, but at $500CAD, I'd actually consider it very overpriced. At $300CAD, maybe it's a different discussion.

There are few things more irritating than suffering the consequences of being cheap.

It really comes down to how competitive you want to be. Will they be better than what you have, YES. Are they going to be considerably slower than what is available now, YES.

Additionally depending on your rule set these are likely 140 treadwear and not legal for many autox classes.

Personally I’d pass especially at that price, remember you’ll have to have them mounted too, likely another 100cad

Not cheap enough to make the age worth jumping on. Cook your indy hawks and pick up a current leading track tire.

I grabbed a set of 235 R1R for 200cad and ran them last year. Decent tire for the price but as everyone said, not the best. They do last long, as there is still enough life left to run this year, but I will just keep them for 1 or 2 lapping days.
