tire damage question?

hey all, I am new to the car scene and have a question regarding my tire.

I hit a curb going very slow when making a turn and have a very small part (around 1 inch) of the tire sidewall peeling.

Is it safe to drive around with such minimal damage?

thanks

It's probably the rim protector that's peeling. Swing by a tire shop though.

+1 for it being the rim protector, in which case there woudlnt be a problem. However, without pictures, this is impossible to tell just based on the OPs description.

Obviously would NEVER recommend it if you can afford new rubber, but I rode with a sizable chunk of my sidewall missing and used quality rubber cement to fill the hole. Before the cement you could see threads or whatever the sidewall structure is.

Held up for 5k miles and just recently replaced it... because of a nail. lol

If it's the rim protector (extra rubber bulge on the sidewall) you're fine, the tire's carcass is what gives it structure and strength (the rubber does as well, but it's supplemental). If the carcass is exposed, replace it. Post pics to be certain!

obviously I was gonna look at the photo, print it out on my 3d printer, and then run a couple tests to see if the damage was bad enough to replace the tire!

I was thinking it would be better to get another opinion from a different shop
