Anybody bent their jack points?
The other day while I was lifting my car with a floor jack, my jack point bent! I bent it back with a vice grip, but I'm still afraid it naught fail again. Has anybody else had this issue?

I am sure someone on here had that happen and everyone said it was not a big deal. Try searching pinch welds or somthing?

Zero worries, just bend it back.
If you change your tires a lot why not jack it up from the front/rear jack points? A low profile jack is worth the investment, or wheel ramp jack helpers.

Ah I see, your jacking it up four times? One on each wheel?
Using the front/rear method you only jack it up twice. Thanks for the reminder too need to rotate mine.

The Harbor Fright one for $70 is perfect. Lots of autoX guys have it. It's light and good enough for tire changes. Though it doesn't raise it high enough to do repair work. I saw some new cheap jack stands for $20 that had a notch already cut in. I forget the brand it was in autozone or some other place.

If you have a high lift jack, when you jack from the front the rear will come off the ground too so you still only have to jack twice. My jack is pneumatic, it makes it even easier.

even with a low profile jack, i still need to drive onto a small piece of wood to barely get the jack under the jack point :/
the front/rear center jack points pretty much became non-existant as soon as i lowered the car lol

First time I jacked up my car, the paint chipped off the jack points on the side. I jack from front and rear now.

After bending it back, look for cracks/chips in the paint then scrape them clean (primer or metal). Touch up the area with printer then paint (maybe want to put in a bit of undercoating) -if it's cold hit it a little with a heat gun to speed up the curing process.

Even with jack stands, I play it safe and slide my wheels under the side of the car. Better a new wheel than my skull if it fails. If I'm not taking the wheels off, I leave the jack in place just barely contacting where I jacked it up as a fail safe. There is a guy on our forum that had his jack stands fail and it wasn't pretty. I personally use the cross pin jack stands as they are generally stronger. |
