UNKNOWN SMELL?? FIXED, Close Please

Grimmspeed Intake is awesome. Smell had NOTHING to do with it. Somehow I think stale water was trapped in the AC vents/wherever due to the storm that hit after I installed intake. Lysol got rid of the problem and smell never came back.

/close thread please!

This is normal. Post a log if you want someone to verify, but all the behavior you describe is normal.

If you went from stock to the Grimmspeed then did you cap the sound tube at the firewall?

Is this normal?
Completely normal. Engine should run rich when at wide open throttle for a margin of safety, should idle at pretty much stoich, and when you let off the gas it should read lean as there isn't really fuel but rather a small amount of air pumping through the motor. Everything you've said is exactly how the car should operate, good stuff!

I know in the other thread you posted in I gave you a ton of stuff to check, as I was concerned you might be running rich or lean. However, THIS right here would be a good reason why you would smell anything in the cabin. Make sure you've capped off the sound tube with the supplied cap, otherwise you have an open hole form your cabin to the engine bay, and you would have TONS of new smells in the cabin.

Thanks for helping get this sorted guys while I was away, much appreciated

This is why it's a good idea to monitor and log things before and after a change so you can see what differences the new mod caused.

The AFR's don't sound wildly off at all, I'm sure it's totally fine. If you're really concerned, log the commanded AFR as well and compare that to the actual AFR and look for big gaps.

I already had it capped before the install so i left it capped with my cap. Did i need to use the cap that came with the product?

To cap it I used the cigarette lighter cap from the glove compartments method originally.

Cigarette lighter cap works just fine. I must say this truly is an odd problem, and I have no idea what could possibly be causing a smell. You could always take the intake off, and put the stock one back on to see if the smell were to disappear. Flash the stock intake stage 1 tune too.

I might try to reset the ecu first tonight. My dad suggested it as well. I also switch to a a mix of 91/100 = 93 octane last night and changed the grimmspeed tune from 91 oct to 93 oct. so might see how that all goes. My coolant level is also very low (but not under the low line) i noticed. Maybe its leaking and burning off when the engine is on?

First car issue for my first car. kind of excited to solve it a challenge appears!

Vaka, I seemed to have noticed a smell too but figured it was running rich due to the tune. Also could be burnt torque converter from Shiv's driving and dyno work....lol

It seems to have gotten better lately though I still get a gas smell sometimes.

Yes! It smells like a mix of fuel and a hospital (like a cleaning agent)

Basically the car smells like a chemical unscented clean smell thats slightly sweet smelling. i really cant describe it. I havent driven it for two days because of the storm but will reset ECU soon

If the problem still persists im taking it to the next meet and seeing if someone can identify the smell lol

Err, even if running rich, cabin air smell should not be effected. If you've got exhaust making it into cabin, that's bad times.
