Calibrating TPMS
I'm not sure if this is the right place (and if not I apologize); I searched and couldn't find anything quite like this...
Has anyone had any luck with setting/resetting/calibrating their own TPMS? I'm thinking about getting another set of wheels and tires with TPMS installed. I'd rather not go to the dealership every time the wheels are switched. There's got to be a way to calibrate it the same way they do... |

That's what several of us on these forums use when we switch between summers and winters. |

You can find others for under 500. Might be used. Any auto shop though can reset the light for you for a couple of bucks.

Can someone please explain to me why a device that cannot be more complicated than your average graphing calculator...costs 18 times as much?
(at least the one that initially linked to me)What technology in these devices is "so advanced" that requires such an absurd price tag?? ![]() Additionally, does anyone else feel "violated" that you purchase a car and yet you're not able to change the ECU without paying exorbitant costs? I realize the software requires people to write it (in fact I work in software development myself) but the costs are probably much higher than they reasonably could be since manufactures make THEIR license costs so high. I guess I'm just ranting at this point but I really do appreciate the effort places like RomRaider are doing. You should be able to buy a simple OBD-II to USB interface and use open-source software to modify the ECU. At the very least the TPMS settings... the "code" that has to be uploaded is a string (not technically) of numbers that is what 10 characters long? That's a lot of money per bit...damn. Anyways /rant Last edited by TheLaughingMan; 01-23-2014 at 12:54 AM. |
