Rear Bumper Applique Issues
Ugh.. the one thing that my car included that I didn't want.. and I'm already having issues with it..
I've only had my FR-S for 4 1/2 months - and it is garage kept. Sooo, I'm figuring that others have had this issue, too. Not a big deal, but I'm wondering if anyone else is having problems with the rear bumper applique peeling? See pictures below. Has anyone approached their dealer about this? At first I didn't want it, but now that I see how much it protects the bumper when getting things from the trunk (and that I had to pay $ 70 for it...) I'd rather it stay put.

Since you have only had your car for less than a year, have you tried contacting the dealership to see if there is any kind of warranty on it?

I peeled mine off and goo-goned the bumper. It looks way better without it.

I peeled mine off as well, but if it bugs you, I'd try the dealership like others suggested

Dealer should have to warranty it since it was a dealer installed item.
If you dont want it installed just tell them to give you the new one and you can sell that here on the forums. That's what I did. Good luck!

If the dealer installed your "Rear Bumper Applique" it has a warranty.
![]() btw that's not normal wear and tear.

My car should have come with one as it is listed on the window sticker, but it was not on the car at delivery. When I went back and told them about it they offered to "install" it, but I refused. I also didn't let them just keep my $70 + interest for nothing. I left with a installed TRD Air Filter and a cleaning kit on the house!
![]() OP, I would go back to the dealership for sure and have them fix or replace it! According my dealer, it's "installed" at the port so it's considered a factory option. |

They probably installed it there...didn't clean the surface properly...x10 on going back for a replacement. If you can have it installed by a "clear bra" expert you shouldn't have the rough edge.

Thanks everyone. I did contact my dealer. I was scheduled for my first service yesterday so they checked it out while the car was in there. He said it's likely that the dealer that they swapped with had installed it before swapping and that they would order/clean/replace it. I was mainly wondering if others were having problems yet or if it was a fluke. If everyone's was peeling, i would just take it off. I don't like it that much, but it really does protect the bumper a lot!

dealership did not install it properly. those "appliques" are just clear bra material, and as such, needs proper "clear bra style" installation (clean, clay, wrap, squeegee, inspect). I bet most dealerships just put them on like they're stickers.
i have it installed on my rear bumper (plain clear bra, though. no way I want that gaudy Subaru or Scion logo) and it has paid for itself for the amount of times my friends have put their stuff on it without a care. |
