Help! Jumpy/Uneven Acceleration
Manual transmission. I notice that when I strongly accelerate in first gear, power is not 100 percent. It almost feels as though the clutch is slipping but the car only has 375 miles. Could this be traction control kicking in to prevent wheel spin
. Should I take it to my dealer? Thanks.

You might just be experiencing the Torque Dip, the clutch shouldn't be slipping and i doubt its your traction control.
Bolt ons and a tune will minimize your torque dip and better tires will give you better traction, so those could be some future options for you.

Without driving it myself, my guess would be synchros and gear ratio difference between 1st and other gears making it seem off.

I bet this is the case also. I almost took mine to the dealer after the 1st day because I swore it felt like it was running on 3 cylinders. It just took some getting used to the torque dip and learning to drive above and below it. For me the car likes to be either short shifted for normal acceleration or shifted near the top of the rpm range for spirited driving. I also noticed my car felt stronger once I got a couple thousand miles on it. I recently got an Openflash tuner which helped the torque dip a LOT. Enjoy your new car! |

Next time this happens, keep an eye out for the yellow light flashing in the gauge cluster. I know in my car if I nail it from a roll in 1st gear, It breaks traction easily with the TCS turned off on sooth pavement. My money's on TCS stepping in.

This. Once I did this, it helped a lot with the jumpyness.

Wait . . . 375 miles and your "accelerating strongly"?
Maybe think about taking it easy and doing a "break in"?!?!? |

I would suggest you take it sort of easy for a few more hundreds of miles. Your car may settle down after it gets limbered up.... ![]() humfrz |

the highway on-ramp that I take 99% of the time has two bumps/crack right before merging... the car is at the top of 2nd right around this time, high rpm... right around 60 mph. Before, the car's drive-train would "lash", I would hop a bit inside the car and the rear-end would hop after the lash made it's way down the to the differential. Power being embarrassingly lost and the car would disconnect from myself, the driver.
After installing the Whiteline Transmission Bushing Insert, that had all but disappeared. The car feels VERY firm and planted now under load going over those very bumps. Just FYI, from the factory, the car has .5" of play on the transmission mount, you are more than likely feeling this "slack" that I felt. |
