Newbie Question
Simple question .... well, except for me. From what I've read here, a 225/17 tire will fit a 17x7 Base Limited wheel.
Is there a downside to upgrading from the 215/45 to the 225/40? Want to go to a slightly wider tire without also going to the 7.5 rim. TY John |

-2.12% smaller number on the speedo thanks the different size. Get a 17x8 and go 245/40 for an almost identical to stock ratio

Thanks for all of your input.
I bought my BRZ only two days ago, and would like to ditch the Primacy's for either Michelin A/S 3+ or PS4S . Primarily a DD, but also intend to do some AutoX and occasional light track. Retaining the stock suspension for now. Perhaps I should just cool off and burn the Primacy's off first, huh? Hopefully the base suspension is setup to understeer with them. I hate surprises. |

Hi. Hope you're loving your new car! From my experience I would leave on the cheap tyres for a DD. I found as I got more confident I started to enjoy a bit of tail out action and my tyres didn't last like they should, I went and bought a cheap set of stock rims secondhand and got a dedicated set of track tyres.
If you do push a bit harder on back roads, less grippy tyres might make you a better driver in the long run. Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk |

225/45-17 is a bit "pooched" on 7" wide wheels. I'd go 215. Save for 7.5" or 8" wheels to run 225s, 8.5" or 9" to run 245/40.

First, ignore the people that say the stock tires are crap, they are wrong. Drive the car as is and see what you think. You don't need super expensive tires to enjoy this car.

Well, I think that the smartest thing I've done so far is posting my question here.
Getting some varies opinions, and I'm soaking every one us like a sponge .... well, to the best of my ability anyway. ![]() I'm going to stick with the OEM 7" rims & 215's until I become familiar with how she handles. I'll start exploring later. That'll also allow me some time to read-up on caster, camber, and toe-in and -out. Even though I've been a lifetime gearhead (yeah, going back to the 60's!!! ... I'm an old fart), I know very little on car handling dynamics. Never too old to learn. Thanks again to everyone who contributed. JohnM |
