0w-30 is 0 weight oil with additives (viscosity modifiers) to make it a 30 weight oil at 100C. I guess those additives' effectiveness diminished after 6k miles. It is like feeding steroids to a normal guy to be a sprinter. After running 6 months, the steroids wear off and he becomes a normal guy again. It would be interesting to see the results with other oils.

I've read that Mobil 0W-40 is a little thin too. Maybe it's just a Mobil thing. I think I'll try PP 0W-40 next. It's apparently more true to its weight. I wouldn't be worried about your oil being a little thin for a 0W-30 though, it's a quality oil and as long as you aren't pushing it in extreme conditions, you should be just fine.

What was your previous fill? I went from 0w-20 to 0w-40 and my uoa was on the thinner side from residual 0w-20.

I've been using Ow30 Mobil 1 oil for about 45k now and I'm happy with it so far (I'm at 75k total). No auto cross or track events just daily and spirited driving. Frequent short trips so I change my oil much sooner like around 3k-4k. Once it starts getting a lot darker I change it. That low viscosity is interesting. I'm really interested in what he results would be in a 0w40 test. Or the 0w30 test with like 4K miles and see if similar low viscosity still occurs the same with less beak down. I wonder if the oil starts breaking down after 4.2kish that's when I have noticed the color really start to change.

I may change to 0w40 if you get another oil test that shows improved results.

Thanks for posting

Mobil one 0w30 runs slightly thin with a 100c viscosity of only 10.9 cst when new. Compare that with something like Castrol Syntec 0w30 (aka German Castrol) which has a viscosity of 12.2 cst at 100c. Nothing to worry about though.

Viscosity may be low, if you had 0W20 in there previously. An oil change doesnt exchange out 100% of the oil.

Thanks for posting your sample!

Agree. If there's nothing to suspect a problem with the engine, the second oil change on a given oil sample is the one that matters most since it will give you a better idea of your engine with this oil.

Been using 0w-30 for the last 3 changes to answer some of you asking if I had switched.

If you want to increase viscosity at the end of the oil life, 5w-30 is a better choice than 0w-40. This is totally appropriate for where you live.

Fuel dilution.
Flash point near threshhold.
Try 7500 mile OCI and retest, if concerned.
Or stick with 6000 mile OCI.
There is no notorious Mobil1 high iron results from this UOA.
IMHO.
You have found your sweet spot.
Go with the flow.

I just got back my first used oil analysis. I've been running mobil 1 0w-30 for about 40,000 miles. My total mileage is 73,000. Comparing against unit/location averages things seem to look pretty good.

I'm no expert but if anyone with more knowledge can help me understand more about this readout it would be appreciated.

You added 5.7 quarts as top off? What does that mean in the notes?
