front pipe questions
Hey guys,
So I have a tomei uel header and corsa catback and I intend to get a new front pipe but I cant decide whether to go with a high flow cat or no cat at all. I spoke to my tuner and told him I want more pope and burbles. He said I will need a no cat front pipe or a high flow front pipe but I will eventually melt the cat. Now here's my problem, I would prefer to go straight to no cat but how much louder is a no cat front pipe to a high flow front pipe. Also just for reference heres the 2 front pipes I am looking at catted http://www.modbargains.com/berk-tech...at-frs-brz.htm no cat http://www.modbargains.com/invidia-f...pe-frs-brz.htm no cat http://www.modbargains.com/injen-frs...-SES1230MP.htm also if anyone likes a different one better let me know This is for a daily |

Extremely louder and raspier, quiet daily drivers are nice. Go catted.
If you must go catless, buy the fujitsubo. Yes, it is expensive. Yes, it is worth it. |

Just because you have a catalytic converter in your front pipe does not mean it will be quieter.
The Berk front pipe you referenced made an entirely stock exhaust system about 3db louder than the stock front pipe. I've tested about 20 different combinations and a handful of them were recorded. If you want more noise and smell, go with any straight pipe. If you want more noise and no smell, go with any front pipe with HFC. If you want smell and little noise, go with any front pipe with large resonators. -alex |

I have a little story here. I had a 13 BRZ that I kept the parts from and one of them was a CNT resonated FP. I put the revworks header on, put the FP on, and the bought a HKS catback because I could afford one....finally. Long story short, I wanted to rip my eye balls out from all the FP noise. It seems to be the singular loudest factor for the cabin. SO!!!!! I popped the factory FP back on. Low tone, rezonated, no tin or rasp. Best choice ever. The things is, you are going to get most HP from a header and tune, period. Trust me.

There's too many South Bay's in the world... His is near Los Angeles if that changes your perception any... but I know you lived there too so maybe it's a stereotype I haven't heard yet.

Go HKS duel resonated fp.
No melting cats and way less drone. Straight pipe will melt your head.. |

I would recommend the JDL ultra quiet frontpipe. High flow cat with a resonator. Best of both worlds. Just please don't go straight pipe, your ears would bleed, or at least everyone around you would.

Yeah I have the JDL "ultra-quiet" front pipe - and even that's pretty loud with aftermarket catted headers + catback. I can't even imagine how loud a straight pipe would be...
