2016 BRZ Limited maintenance schedule

I am coming up on my first service. This is my first brand new car and I am nearly at 4k. My dealer had the oil interval at 5k. I've been reading up on the forum and had some questions.I didn't get a free oil change from my dealer; They are 5 hours away anyways. I have access to a shop and a lift. I am more than capable of doing oil changes along with other tasks, so I will be happy to do it myself.

What should the first service consist of? Some people change the oil, diff fluid, MTF, and apply crush washers. I suppose it would be a good idea to get a magnetic drain plug as well. Is there anything else I should be aware of such as resetting the interval on the car display?

Change the oil. Use magnetic drain plug.
Inspect your coolant and brake fluid.
Rotate the tires.
Change out the transmission fluid. Use either Pennzoil Synchromesh or Redline MT-90. Must be GL-3 or GL-4 rated to avoid damage to the transmission's brass bushings.
Change the differential fluid. Use Mobil1 LS gear lube or Redline MT-90.
Replace the cabin air filter.
Wash and wax it.
Take it for a spin.

Motul gear 300 is also great transmission and diff fluid. Here's a DIY with torque values.

IMO, the magnetic drain plug is a gimmick. and if it does work well, do you really want a clump of metal shavings sitting on the end of the plug where it can easily be washed away with movement of the oil in the pan?

go for a fumoto quick valve and brag to your friends about how easy and mess free your oil changes are (especially with the filter placement)

Oh, I suggest you not make life hard for yourself.

Change the crankcase oil (use new crush washer) and oil filter.

Check other fluid levels (brake/clutch fluid, coolant, windshield washer fluid & battery fluid).

Check air pressure on tires.

Record in a notebook, what you did, when, where, what fluids and parts you used and keep receipts.

Gimmick, maybe, maybe not... always a good idea to not have shavings in general.

But unlike a transmission or differential, there's nothing to "grind" in an engine. If you have that many shavings to do harm, there's bigger problems than just "shavings that can be easily washed away". Think about it: the shavings are there, if there is no magnetic drain plug it'd just sit around in the engine oil or oil filter... which is why there's an oil filter to begin with.

But if you must have a magnet somewhere, get a FilterMag for $60 and reuse it forever, on any car you will ever own. And run whatever oil filter you want.

This is the kind of thing I was thinking of. However according to the manual on the first interval only changing the oil and rotating the wheels is recommended at 6000 miles. I thought that alot more would be required for a new car.

This is my first brand new car. So I'm just trying to be proactive. I'll probably just do what the manual suggests.

I would still change the transmission fluid and the differential oil even though it's not specified yet in the manual. There are a few threads here that show how dirty they get during break-in. I changed mine with only 1000 miles on the car and the fluids were black and full of metal. I think after this initial break-in and fluid change, you should have to change the fluids again until specified in the manual.
