changing wiper blades - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

All the youtubes start with getting the blades at right angles to the arm then undoing a clip. I cannot get my blades at right angles without force and fear of breaking.

Can anyone advise please.

Dude these are hook type (like 90% of the cars out there) you open the wiper latch bit then slide them like an inch off the "hook" part then that's it! It's super easy hahaha

Thanks go_a_way1, but from what I see on the youtubes of hook types they still angle the blade at roughly right angles to the arm before they fiddle with a latch bit and get it off the hook.
I cannot get the blade at anywhere near right angled without using force and it feels as if I might do damage. Where is the latch anyway?
I just KNOW I am going to feel stupid when I get to the bottom of this.

just pull the wiper outwards (towards the front if you have the blades off the windshield) then angle it to slip it off? that's how most j-hooks work. it might be inwards if outwards doesn't work (towards the screen). I haven't changed the wipers on this car yet so I have no idea which direction it is but you definitely have to pull them apart first (the wiper and the stem).

Here are some picks. Some styles have the tab like the first photo and the others have the latch on the top. Sometimes they can be a bit of a bitch to get off. You only need to turn it 90 degrees once it's of the hook part to slide the hook part down through the center of the blade

Bro it's just like balls. Take a solid grip and pull down firmly. It looks aggressive but it won't hurt anything.

TBH at least he's trying to get it. I've seen customers resort to wrapping duck tape around the arm and wiper cuz they got so frustrated😂😂

OK I know how to do it now and worked it out myself (actually before I saw go_a_way's excellent post # 5 for which I commend him and he's earned a Special Thanks). It turns out that NONE of the youtubes illustrate our blades which are unusual, and therefore I do not feel stupid and all you know-it-alls can get back in your boxes and I hope you damage your wipers. So there!

For other people with open minds the trick is to not attempt to get the wiper perpendicular to the arm but simply lift a latch on the back of the hinge (fingernail or padded screwdriver) and then you can slide the blade and get it off the hook. You could lift the latch with the wiper on the glass to start with.
I could not find this in the owner book?? and bet a few blades get damaged by ham-fistedness .
