You don't *have* to participate in 9 events - but we are counting 9 events worth of points towards the overall season total. And if you make it to more than 9 events, then we are only counting your 9 best finishes in any one class.
If you mod your car mid season and it bumps you up a class, your points do not carry over and essentially you would be starting over in the new class. But this does mean you could finish top 3 in multiple classes.
Also on a sidenote - if any of you are planning on showing up for the 86 Cup tomorrow, when you pick up your transponder for timing purposes (and you should, they're free!) make sure you tell the timing guy that you'll be running in the 86Cup and which class you're going to be in. This will ensure your times are parsed for the Cup and it will help make the final tallys for the day move more smoothly!
