I have a similar issue. It sounds like something in the suspension might me a sway bar end link. I am going to check it out this weekend when I install my brakes.

Does it go away at higher speeds?

Accurate Race Shop 08-20-2013 11:41 PM

yeah normally when shifting into 1st and second I hear it. sounds like a small knock like someone is tapping something with a hammer

heatshield?

I find it hard to keep track of all the sounds that come and go over time. I am going to train myself to ignore the benign-sounding ones. Yes, its doable.

Well I put the breaks on and inspected everything and I couldn't figure out where the noise is coming from so I'm going to take it to the dealer tomorrow.

have you changed the wheels?
i had this, I eventually found it. turned out to be something inside the tyre, the valve stem nut had come undone.

Accurate Race Shop 08-25-2013 09:43 AM

Yeah I replaced the tires and wheels. It sounds more from the center of the car. Because I still have my warranty I think I'll let the dealer sort it out to save me some time. Normally I would work on it until I figured it out but I have just been to busy to set aside an afternoon to mess with it.

Check your inner CV's?

Check the endlinks. I had the clanking issue and could not find anything. Yanked at the the endlinks and heard nothing. Turns out one of the nuts were slightly loose.

Mine is going to make it to the dealership tomorrow I received the warning "we haven't worked on many of these but we will give it our best shot" so I can only hope for the best. This is just a toyota dealer they don't sell scions but the next closest dealer is over an hour away so here's to hoping for the best.

Sound like the video that's in my first post in this thread? http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43936

If so, this is the problem. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41762

I have a bit of a clanking sound as well. They put the washer (that should have been installed at the factory) on the heat shield bolt so it wouldn't come loose again and since then its been fine.

It doesn't sound extremely abnormal and my friend with a brand new BRZ has the same sound sometimes. Its only in 1st and 2nd.
