GT86 Bang for the Buck Build

My GT86-adventure finally started today. A completely stock 2013 auto with only 15 000 km on it. A perfect baseline to start with.

This car handles so incredibly well, and at the right rpm it's actually not that bad performance-wise. Even with an extra set of wheels in the trunk.

I do however feel that torque-dip everyone is talking about.

The only planned mods for the engine will be OFH, OFT and a drop-in filter.

Weight saving is next. Removing the spare tire and replacing the stock header with the lighter OFH will shave off quite a few kg's. Next thing on the kg/money-scale is a lighweight battery. I am putting together a LiFePo4/supercap-hybrid which will weight under 4kgs and cost around 150usd.

So: Header, filter, tune, lightweight-battery. Whats next on the bang/buck-list?

Car and Driver weight reduction are fairly cheap too!

E85 or flex fuel tune

The next thing I would recommend is wheels+tires followed closely by brake pads and fluid. You can shave off a few lbs of unsprung weight per corner and get a huge boost in grip. You will then want better brakes to make sure you can use all that grip with no fade worries.

You are taking a similar approach to me when I start my budget track build. I plan to do all of the same with the addition of wheels+tires, replace all fluids, brake pads, and oil cooler. I plan to do the fluids and oil cooler first because I like a healthy car and then tires+brakes because I like not dieing. Then add power.

^ This. If you already plan on getting the OFT, just go E85! 20+hp for free!
