Cheap pulley kit from ebay
I found a kit on eBay from "fab racing" that's 150 for all pulleys (Canadian) and it apparently weights 1.54 lbs all together.. has anyone used one of these eBay kits before ? The price is so tempting and seem pretty light

Save your cash for something that makes a difference but if you really want it then don't go he cheapest thing that you can find on Ebay. There are reasons they are so cheap and since pulleys are actually a more critical component then some seem to think I would be very leery.
And here we go with debate 1,876 on the topic. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13781 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54612 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12450 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...t=20605&page=3 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61709 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12583 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24081 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50879 |

Have you ever had them before or had any experience with them? When I put one on my sentra, the different was there not by horsepower but by feeling the revs lighter Also there is yet to be a yes or no on whether theyre effective or not :/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

As I very clearly said though: If YOU want them then don't just grab the cheapest thing you can find. Spend the money and do it right. Half assing things with questionable Ebay parts is not doing things right. There were several reviews of the parts in the links I gave you go ahead and make up your own mind but remember opinions will differ. |

Oh I know I just wanted yours and others opinion about the cheap eBay ones which now I understand I should steer away from them. But I have yet to seriously find a thread that says NO they do not work or YES they do! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

For us, it's "Do they make the car faster?" in which case the answer is no. Some people want to know if they slow down the alternator or other accessories at high RPM ("underdrive"), but don't really investigate whether or not that's necessary. Do they make the accessories drive slower? Sometimes, yes. But again, that's not really accomplishing anything other than justification bias on these motors as already mentioned. Now, if you go buy a motor from Element Tuning or someone that's meant to spin to 9,000 RPM all day long, then maybe there's some merit there. Some people want them to make the engine bay look fancy or modified. Do they do that? Sure. They're just round pieces of metal. |

From MY own personal experience, in a totally different car, with totally different technology, from both my butt and a real dyno I am very firmly in the they are a waste of time camp. Now, I am going to add a qualifier to that statement. IF you are going for a massive weight reduction (and I mean to the point the car is no longer street drivable) then there is certainly a cumulative advantage to going to light pulleys. As a change all on their own any effect they may have is so small that there is no real impact even though people may THINK they feel a difference. That is my final contribution to the debate and I will let everybody else rehash it (yet again) from here. |
Fuck those things. Your main bearings will thank u.

There is a debate for many years. Some people defend them, some don't and some just try it. Personally, I tried it and my car is much better than ever. Keep in mind that this is a small NA engine and it helps saving rotational weight. However, keep also in mind that my car is less than 2620lbs, I installed the most expensive pulley kit and it also underdrives the alternator (not good if you have A/C, heated seats or in general use the battery a lot). Additionally, you'll hear more noises from the engine. For me it is fine, because it is a sports/race car and not a daily driver. I would never install this on my daily car. If you want to buy it, I agree with the others. Don't buy these things from ebay for cheap.
