What kind of fuel economy do you get?

Currently, I'm averaging about 10.6 L/100km. I'm trying to get it down to an even 10.

Computer states 27 with mixed city and highway. I always calculate it myself and it's surprisingly accurate (my last car was not).

I should probably use the search

arrow34 11-18-2016 11:53 AM

I get between 24 and 27 on the winter mix we get in Michigan. a bit more on the summer mix. so maybe 26-30.

Whoa! On highway or city? Manual or automatic?

I've just been city driving with a manual.

98% 401. I live in London and work in Woodstock, Windsor and Tillsonburg. I drive about 5,500 a month. Since all my plants are right off the 401 and I live about 6 blocks from it I spend very little time driving in the city. I also travel at off rush hour times so it is 120kph hit cruise and leave it for up to 2 hours. Makes for a great average mileage.

Don't use the site search. Just Google your question and add ft86club.

I've certainly learned not to trust that average miles per gallon thing in the instrument cluster.

It's usually approximately 1.5 miles per gallon too optimistic.

Use your own calculator, it does not lie.

Additionally, here in Cali we have vapor recovery nozzles on the gas pumps. I can't prove it, but believe some of them, if put on slowest speed, put in more gas than the car actually holds. In other words, they MAY suck back more than just fumes.

Karl07 11-18-2016 03:57 PM

I average (by the cars calculations) 7.9, or 7.6 (by mine).
I drive 28km each way to work in medium city traffic 5 days a week.
Also get out for a couple hundred kms of mountain driving once a week.

Back when I had the car stock, I actually was able to get the car to low 5s easily on my highway only route of 228km per day.
I was easily getting 800-850km per tank.
But then I upgraded my wheels and get only about 550-650km.

hdbahn 11-18-2016 04:50 PM

First 1500 miles mostly mixed highways (avg 60 mph) slight remote drafting (not a big factor w/frontal area) just about 38 indicated/ 36 actual calculated max/30-32 minimum (short thrills in the mtns very limited) . Roughly the same as my Focus which also has a huge computer BS factor which hit 40 from NC to St. Louis. Have you watched the instantaneous figure off throttle? I found it entertaining as it bounced from 75 to over 100.

geezerbrzeezer 11-18-2016 07:51 PM

I get exactly the same mileage, city or highway, summer and winter. WGAF mileage is only measureable via my constant grin and my continuous efforts in the upper RPM's, and not by some lowly, optimistic manufacturer's computer bs bullshitter.

I average 34mpg with a mix of city/highway, but mostly city driving. I have a '13 manual, tuned with a few other goodies, but no aero.

hmmmm ....... is that because you don't have any hills in Florida ..... or, because you can cruise at 40 mph through your cities using cruise control .... ??

OK, what IS your secret ...... :confused0068:

26-28 city

BRZnut 11-19-2016 08:51 AM

always use 93 from Costco since top tier gas (more additives to keep engine clean)....MPG around town 28/ highway 36 (short trips)/ highway 41 (long trips)

p1l0t 11-19-2016 09:53 AM

(bone stock) I aim for 22mpg. I usually only get it down to about 24 though.

I usually cruise around 45 in the city in 5th, which keeps my rpm around 2500 ish. I don't like the rpm below 2k as the car does not feel right, and reaching 3k is when i usually shift. I use cruise control for long roads only, or if police are nearby.
A tune does help though, as well as some lightened drivetrain pieces. And be easy on the throttle, only use what you need and don't give too much unless you're in the correct gear.

Do you track your car or run corn? When i was on corn, i averaged about 25mpg, but it varied a lot on throttle. I think the lowest instant mpg i saw on corn was 1.2 when full throttle.

why? 11-19-2016 08:32 PM

I drive like an old grandmother. Does a tune really help gas mileage? If it does I'd get an OFT in a heartbeat.

How many miles would it take to recoup several hundred dollars if you're seeing 2 mpg more?

not really about the money. Plus if you keep the car a decade or longer you will eventually recoup the money. But if a tune can get better performance and get better gas mileage it is a win-win and that is wonderful. I always assumed a tune would get worse gas mileage and since my car is a dd I'm totally not interested in that.

my last car, a Yaris, I spent a few grand on things that lightened up the car, made it much more fun to drive, and helped me get much better gas mileage. It is fun to brag about getting 50 mpg in a fun to drive car.

Running corn having too much fun. I bet it's more like 16. Every time I've checked the old fashion way it's been about 2 higher than the car says.

Pardon me, but if you have a tuned car the least thing you will do is driving like your ol' grandma. I got 22-24 mpg, mods on the car are uel header, oft stage 2 93oct and still considering final gear (4.67), so will get worse

An OFT tune could get you maybe even 5mpg if you truly drive like a grandma, like another 10 peak HP and torque, and decrease some of that torque dip.
The toughest part about modding a car however is being easy on the gas. Every time i get a new part, i drive the car like i just got it.

My average mileage actually improved when I put the supercharger on. I get around 25-26 MPG average, mix of city and highway.

I found that since the car has more power, I don't have to shove my foot through the floor to get an answer from it.

Of course when I'm romping on it a lot, that tank's MPG suffer proportionally.

Lantana frs 11-20-2016 12:54 AM

My average mpg, mostly around town, is 21. I have oft 93 tune with crawford intake spacers.

g e 11-20-2016 02:31 AM

I get a thousand grins per mile.

Totally get what you mean. In my case an FD upgrade actually mildly improved my own economy, but I have way too much fun winding out the gears to think of forced induction.

I don't hoon my car but when I see a long stretch, I do take it up to redline (at least 7 times a week)

91 octane from petro Canada

I'm sitting at 8.1 -- I'm probably in either sport or manual mode 60% of the time, mix of city and highway.

I use Ultramar 91 and notice absolutely zero difference if I use Shell 91.

Been holding steady at 27.7 mpg for a long time now.

Somerandom18 11-20-2016 05:04 PM

18-28 depending on my mood in the city. 34-36 highway.

Bless your heart if you went with a shorter final, like the 4.5-4.7's I've seen mentioned. The 6th gear cruising RPMs are annoyingly high already in my opinion. I've always said this car needs a 7th gear.
