Burning smell after FP/OP mod

Story time! 2017 86 MT

Changed to tomei uel and invidia n1. All was good.

Bought and installed new Berk FP/OP, but found it too loud (10mi of driving). Swapped back to stock FP, but left off heat shield. Berk OP still on car. While down there, I noticed the oil pan heat shield was coming off (side sloping up and away from header), so I removed part of it so it wasn't flapping. Old adhesive still on pan.

After swapping back to stock FP, there's a burning smell that comes into the car after 3 minutes of driving. AC on or fan off prevents smell. This last for a commute to and from work. Under the hood smells after driving.

Decide to put heat shield back on FP. Smell now only happens when car is not moving (red light, etc), but not when in motion. After another day, smell is largely gone (slight smell when stopped), but will come back with spirited acceleration (still only when stopped). At this point, it's been about 3 days.

Gaskets are new and I've checked for leaks, but it doesn't actually smell like exhaust. It smells like something is burning or melting, but not like the "burn-off" smell from new exhaust parts. The smell didn't show up with the Berk FP installed; only after stock FP went back in. I thought to go back under and scrape the excess adhesive from the pan, but thought I'd post in case anyone has had similar issues/can diagnose my problem.

Could it be a leaky cam plate?

it sounds like you're burning off either the grease from your hands or the adhesive on the oil pan
