If I were to get a GTI S, it will be with the performance pack, lighting, and a 6SP manual gear box.

if I were to get a GTI... then I would have bought the wrong car! :P R or GTFO.

It would be an easy sell for Subaru vs. the GTI.

Currently from the pricing, I can get a GTI with Performance Pack, Lighting Package, 4 door, Manual, cloth seats, for less than the Base model price of the WRX.

Now...if the STI came with a new 2.0T engine....
That would be incredibly awesome!
Not if you are going off MSRP and factoring in destination. The base WRX is cheaper at MSRP.

I haven't driven the new one but I drove the mk6 numerous times and though it was a fantastic all around car for the money. I'd say it's a better buy than the FRS/BRZ in terms of an all around daily car.

While the FRS might be more "enjoyable" or "connected", the GTI just works very well as an everyday car. I considered buying one on a few different occasions.

The fact that a simple ECU tune unlocks nearly another 100hp too is just amazing. You would never need to add any more than that and you can get there without braking the bank.

VWs are not the best cars to keep long term. The DSG trannies get rougher and rougher as they age. Reliability, as others have said, is always questionable. For relatively cheap and fast, though, they look awesome.

I also wonder if reliability will get worse now that they are being built in Mexico vs Europe for the 2015 model year.

My friend had a 2006 Mk5 Jetta 2.0T Made in Mexico that was much more reliable than my 2007 Mk5 Golf GTI Made in Wolfsburg.

I'm amazed to read that with the Mk7, not only the front suspension clunks but now the rear subframe as well lol! German engineering.

Yes...but not by much.

Factoring in insurance, and gas mileage

I wonder how they decide where they are built for each market. Our 2015 models are being built in Germany. The VIN I have confirms German build.

This. I drove my buddies 2013 GTI last weekend (we swapped cars). Its APR stage 1. As stated above the controls and ergos are not even close in feel. My buddy even said he wants my shifter, steering, etc. feel of my car

Power was good mostly just torque like my old wrx. Other wise a nah. The car is super quiet and odd when driving as you don't hear the engine really. It actually reminded me alot like my second car a 2014 camry.

On back roads we pulled through 3rd-5th gear in line. Oddly above 100 I pulled on him consistently. He noted this not me.

At lower speeds he was slightly faster like half a car length. I have a header, tune, e85 thats all.

The Golf R I drove had acceleration that left the 86 cold. 0-100 in 4.9s and what I like about it is that they are not just numbers, the reports are that it is easily replicated. Just put your foot flat to the floor.

I'll have it on track soon enough to compare but even if not as tight on the corners as my 86 with coilovers and sway bars etc will still be a fun family car to drop the kids to school in.

I have a VR6, notice I don't have it listed as one of my driving vehicles.... that's cause the tranny casing broke off in several places and it leaks fluid everywhere...

Jaden

Actually my friends 2013 has a permanent 5th gear grind and the entire tranny is destroyed somehow. The dealer said it looked like it 100k+ miles of use when he has only 7k.

His car is in the shop for two weeks now getting a new tranny from Germany.
