Well said. A lot of people just buy these cars because they "look cool". I suppose that is ok considering it helps move units...

I saw a WRB BRZ earlier this evening, and I was immediately excited. I parked and as I was getting out of my FR-S, I saw him drive by and it was a dude with his wife in the passenger seat, and a child in the back seat.

I immediately realized that he didn't really give a fuck that I was in my FR-S in front of him. I went to raise my hand to wave, but then saw how occupied he was with his passengers that I lowered my hand.

It's kinda frustrating, but there's a large percentage of people who will never "drive these cars like they're meant to be driven". Instead, they'll just put put around town with them, keeping the engine under 4k rpm.

As to looks, seems the majority here see the refresh as a step backward on the Toyota side only. (If there was a poll on this, I missed it.) Does this reflect the view of the larger car-buying public? Hard to know but seems plausible - there is a general disdain for weirdly shaped front grill openings (e.g. see: Lexus).

Subaru did run a few TV spots a few years ago, but nothing lately. Toyota's been no better though.
We got our Scion dealer in London just in time for them to shut down Scion. Bashing anything around what happens in Toronto is horribly distorted.
You are still basing your thoughts on what is popular on here. That is a mistake. We are a minority and can not be relied upon to judge popular opinion. probably 99.999999999% of the car buying public have zero opinion on the front bumper of an 86 much less the rest of it.

When you combine the FR-S and BRZ, it looks like it is selling better than the Miata and equal or better than the tC. So that's not bad.

"small sports car segment" SMALL? The Camaro and Challenger are boats for fuks sake. A Cascada (I had to look it up) is a Sebring (sports car? It's almost 4,000 lbs and only 200HP). The Veloster and tC always get lumped into the sports car segment, and an Eos? Really?

If you lump the FRS and BRZ together, that's pretty healthy.

The 3Q numbers are a lot different though- at least for the Stang and Camaro. For the first time in several years the Camaro outsold the Stang and Ford has shut down the Mustang plant for a week in Michigan to sell off some product. I don't think the switch to Toyota for the 86 will have any affect on sales.

Why don't you just say it like it is.

The sales numbers don't look to recover after the model refresh. Only the BRZ sales in Canada look OK. Either it is still too early, or the consumers didn't change their mind after the refresh.

Fall is a bad time for sales for these anyway so sort of hard to judge. The higher Canadian numbers are a bit surprising actually. The lower 86 numbers don't surprise me though since it was a late release and availability was pretty low for a while there.

I'm still over here laughing at how they think the Veloster and TC are sports cars in any way.

'Sports Car' means nothing anymore when the fatass pony cars & grand tourings get put in the category.

The 86 (combined) has outsold the Scion Celica from day 1 and has beaten both the NC and ND. The only Japanese RWD sports car to do better in the past 20 years is the RX-8 and NB Miata.

That 235 is a bit of a dive for the BRZ though.

Yep, that's what it looks like. Personally, I never thought that the re-fresh model will sell, but I still want to believe that I was wrong ...

After seeing the refresh I assumed sales would just continue to drop since they did basically nothing to attract new buyers.

I sometimes feel like the "2nd generation" won't even be a 86/BRZ but will just be the Supra which will replace the 86/BRZ.

Any opinions on that thought?

I might consider selling my house to buy an FT1.
