Oil Change Interval
I rarely drive my BRZ and after 7 months I've managed to accumulate 2,000 miles. At this rate I won't get to 7,500 for another 1.5 year. Do I still have to go in for the oil change every 7.5 months or wait until I hit the 7,500 miles interval? Will they void my warranty if I don't get an oil change every 7.5 months even if I don't drive that much?

Change it at the timed interval or the mileage interval (for whichever schedule you're following per your driving conditions), whichever one comes first.
In your case, change it at the 7.5 month milestone. Warranty doesn't get voided automatically, but if you end up with an engine problem down the road and they can blame it on old oil, then they could refuse to cover it under warranty. Warranty on everything else on your car would still be valid. Don't put yourself at risk, change the oil. It's quick and easy. |

For warranty, change it at the recommended mileage or time interval.
After warranty is up, I wouldn't bother changing it until you hit the mileage. |

For warranty you do NOT need to change at the regular intervals as long as you actually document what you are doing.
I don't plan on doing any of my oil changes at the dealership, nor is the 7500 a concrete number I'm following. My oil change interval needs are based on the oil's usable life determined by used oil analysis. -alex |

I just scheduled my first oil change (also need the dealer to look into squeaky windows, chirpy engine, and whistling door [yeah, I know, it's a flippin' orchestra]) for next week. It only has around 4,500 miles but it's been a little more than 7.5 months. The appointment holds no promise, though, as this line was in the confirmation email I received earlier from the dealer:

I changed mine (myself) for the first time at 12 months. At that point I had around 2,500 miles on it.

Always change the oil by time interval regardless of whether the mileage limit has also been reached, even if zero miles accumulated. |

For the 2013 Scion frs how often should I be getting and oil change and tire rotation? I have been doing every 5k miles but online it recommends every 7.5k miles. Do I keep doing it every 5k or should I start doing every 7.5k now? what do you guys do? this is my daily driver by the way.

If you don't track the car extensively or unless your distance to work is very short, I think what the drivers manual recommends is just fine. humfrz |

I drive about 5k miles in about 3 months. Am I actually taking care of my car better in the long run by doing the oil change and tire rotation every 5k miles as opposed to the recommended 7.5k or am I just wasting my money? |

If it makes you feel better, go ahead and change the oil every 5,000 miles ........ however, I doubt that your car will notice the difference. humfrz |

More important is periodically checking the oil level between changes, to make sure the engine isn't consuming and thus you're running a quart low.
