thought I heard rod knock this morning..

Det, Ping, Knock, Rod Knock, etc.

I had to take my girl to work this morning, and when I was sitting at idle, I thought I heard some faint "pinging" noise. No unusual characteristics while driving, and can't hear the knock noise while cruising. Only at idle, I think I hear something.

When I drove back home, the sound was gone. Tried to see if something was just rattling in the engine bay or not.

Fuck, already for a engine rebuild time!?

That might be a bit extreme, these engines are noisy little critters and make all kinds of very very sick engine sounds right from the showroom floor.

That being said, the occasional knocking (as in predet, not rod knocking) is not going to hurt an engine in low load situations.

I too thought I had the same thing. It's not. You're probably fine. These motors snap, crackle & pop. You'll put a happy 100k miles on your motor is my prediction.

I realize you're automatic, but you should hear it with an upgraded clutch and new throwout bearing. It's a tad noisy.

now I have a voice in my head saying something might be wrong. Need to take it to PRE to have it diagnosed, and also to clamp the vacuum hoses under the manifold. @evan have you done those yet? Anything over 10psi, they recommend clamping all the vacuum lines that the factory did not (no boost, no positive vacuum?).

temps, AFR, boost looks good so far..

Well, I wouldnt worry too much about it, not if AFRs and everytrhing looks good. If you do hear something though, make sure to let us all know.

Will keep my wallet fuller.

Do the vacuum hoses Kohei. I need to do it too. I met up with another KW kit guy in Seattle and his hose under the intake manifold had just popped off after a track day.

If the vacuum hoses under manifold came loose, the car would not idle, so rule that one out.

I haven't done them yet. I don't have the stock manifold anymore, obviously, but I do need to check on my setup. I need to take care of melting fittings from the header and supercharger this week.

no, but its something hitting something under the engine, when its warmed up and only at idle. Its like a weird noise like a cat scraping the door but not rhythmically. Shit is such a tight fit, my car makes all sorts of funky noises..

Everything looks good so far, in 2 months I will reach my 1 year FI daily/track/auto-X. I will report it when the time comes.

I think the drivability is most affected by ride height with lip kits, not being FI..

Even stock the gears chatter when it's cold.
