That said, I have not heard back from my rep since I called last Friday to follow up. That was when I was notified that Toyota engineers have been involved trying to find the root cause. In short, I have no idea what the final bill will be but you can bet I will be pitching a fit should they try to stick me with an even bigger bill. |

5th update: All parts involved with filling fuel have been replaced (tank, fuel neck, filter canister and who knows what else) and still not filling. Toyota is looking into the ECU now and if that fails to find the answer, a Fuel System Technician from Toyota gets to visit small town Texas to try and figure out the cause.
I hope my car's troubles can lead to a much less painful fix for everyone else's rides. Stay Tuned! |

Wow, quite the conundrum you've got going there. Usually you'd think that replacing the entire system would solve it wouldn't you. Strange that it could be a computer issue. Really makes me wish pre-computer era cars were as safe as modern cars. I'd gladly go back to finicky carburetors...

The first thing they should have done is test the purge valve and test and see if a computer module was the issue. The garage threw parts at the problem hoping it'd fix it. That's a piss poor way to try and fix something AND an expensive way to do it. They replaced a bunch of perfectly good working parts and never found the issue.
This is the fault and problem of the garage you went to. You told them to fix the issue, nit throw parts at it. |

Final Update: I got the car back yesterday and the gas filling problem is fixed.
From the 1st Work Order: Found that Chr. Cannister was full of Debris and Fuel. R&R Charcoal Cannister Assembly, tested Evap System all Monitors passed. 1 SU003-01027 Canister US From the 2nd Work Order: Found Charcoal Cannister leak detection pump module has fuel contamination due to failed fuel level cut off valve with tank assy. Replaced all affected components. 2 SU003-07284 Gasket Fuel Pump 1 44940 Tank Fuel Assy 1 SU003-01077 Pipe Filler CP US 1 SU003-01108 Valve Assy ELCM 1 SU003-01093 Hose Filler The new fuel port is very different than original, not sure why. I am glad to have my car back but it was not a pleasant 8 weeks (June 6th to July 31) waiting for Toyota service to figure out what was wrong. During that 8 weeks the Service Manager I started with left and a new Manager was hired. I don't know that my experience will help anyone since I don't feel I was given a very good explanation on what was originally wrong. As Guybo said in the last post, they just threw parts at it until it was fixed. Good luck to everyone else out there having issues with filling the car with gas. If you have questions, I will do my best to answer. Last edited by 5hairpins; 08-02-2017 at 09:21 AM. Reason: Add info from first Work Order |

What was the total cost for repair, if you don't mind sharing, and was anything covered by toyota?

I'm glad it's finally fixed, but that garage did poor work. Yeah it's fixed but it took too long and they took a very circuitous route.
Did you have to pay for a rental? |

That may have actually made up for the extra charges. That rental would have been a lot.

There is a lake road right near my new place that is 55 MPH with two sets of lower speed turns, rated for 30 and 40 MPH respectively, and leads to town. Nothing like that in Dallas without an hour drive first and I can take it any time I head to town. Needless to say, it has been tons of fun. |
