You really want a nose heavy car? In some shitty old Camaro, who cares, but in a twin? Besides, the Al block is just as reliable as the Fe block.
You're best off getting an LS1 and T56. You can buy mounts premade. If you really want to save money and go with that heavy iron block, you can, but you're still probably better off with the T56. Also, why get a 5-gear Nissan when you can have a 6-gear?

Well I finally got a hold of the head manager at toyota he said the swap is not a problem as long as I plan on buying the car in the end.
I went to meet my mechanic today and we're going ahead with the LQ4 6.0L V8 and rebuilding it. I know the Iron block is heavier but Im not worried about that, also, the reason for it Im on a budget. The only thing we havent decided yet is what transmission to go with. From what Ive heard the T56 is a nightmare to fit in the twins

Swapping in the LQ will be hardly any different then an LS. The truck engines have bulkier intake manifolds and front pulley assemblies so those will need to be swapped over to one of the car versions. The camshaft is profiled for truck duty so thats got to go but its a single camshaft with a million options for new ones out there so have your pick and install it.
As for trans, nothing it easy. T56 would be simplest, sure its hard to get in the tunnel but being able to buy off the shelf clutch/flywheel and bell housing should ease some of the pain. There are other trans out there but when you have to deal with adapters and converters things get messy. Look up successful LS swaps and go from there. I've looked into the truck motors myself, no shame in budget power.

Budget and engine swap don't go together. I strongly suggest you post your parts list, and then we can add all the other parts you'll need, from a custom driveshaft to a new fuel pump.

Let me put it another way. Do it right or not at all. Fucking up a car AND spending many thousands seems stupid.

You only need to drill out spot welds for a single tunnel brace, and weld in a new one. The 04-06 Pontiac GTO T56 has a perfect shifter location, and requires no modification. No hammering required, no clearancing required. You *may* have to slightly trim a few external tabs on the passeger side of the trans, but they aren't structural.

Talking from experience, don't use the stock GTO shifter. Throw in a GMM or MGW-P from the get go. They basically get rid of the remote linkage and have an offset direct shift lever. Remote linkage is the reason why the GTO shifter is different - but you can make other T56 transmissions have the GTO shifter location. The GTO specific trans has Z06 gearing....which could or could not be beneficial. GMM ![]() STOCK ![]() |
