I currently use Torque for displaying temps and random data. Completely forgot it had data logging abilities. I'll try it out next track day.

Sort of track related...a new private racetrack is currently being built in my area, but membership costs are upwards of 40K, which unfortunately I don't have lying around. So far they claim there will be no track days available to non-members. Is it common for tracks to be private when they are first built, and open to the public later? I really want to get into racing my BRZ and the next closes track is over 4 hours away.

That's really up to the individual track and it's owners. Monticello Motorsports park opened as a private club but immediately started hosting HPDE events with various groups. (It opened during the heart of the recession) For the last few years, aside from the odd PCA event or club race, it's back to a strictly private venue.

If I had 1000 acres and 100 million, I'd build a private track.
Actually, a neighbor up the road supposedly has a private motocross track.

Just tried out the Club Racers after messing around in the Hybrid Pad world. Wow are they nice. Still going to use them fairly quickly but nowhere near as fast as some pads. I tried a set of Forza FP3's which claim great things but sorely lack in the back them up department. I got 2 events from them compared to 5 from the HC800s.
I will definitely be looking into an Essex/AP BBK very soon though with the amount of consumables I'm going through. The pricetag in Aus though is daunting at around $3700. (2700 from the conversion + the Australia tax.) I will 100% be going Club Racers again though. Those things are amazing. |

Please share your experiences elsewhere; many people are afraid to make the jump due to cost. They don't realize the world of difference it makes in having confidence in your brakes at the track. |

You seem to be asking the right questions and listening intently to the answers Mike is providing. To expand on those answers slightly, keep in mind that the rear sway bar solution is just as Mike said, it is not ideal, but a stop-gap solution to make the car rotate more while you're learning. This works well while learning but once you reach the limit of the car (as opposed to the limit of your skill) you will find that it would be quite well balanced stock and the rear bar creates a few problems. The major issue is excessive oversteer while having to feather the throttle from the inability to apply power during mid-corner and corner exit due to the rear wheels no longer functioning as independent suspension like a live axle muscle car. This teaches you how to balance the car with your right foot at a lower limit than what you would have with a proper suspension setup. This is where the high-end suspension setups offered by CSG and others come into play to provide the proper balance while keeping the corners as independent as possible.

I wouldn't mind swapping to a decent set of coil overs, but as far as the balance itself goes...it feels fine at my current skill level and I'm in no hurry to change it. |
