Its nice to see the car being driven and enjoyed. So many people buy exotics and just look at them for fear of devaluating their precious investment. I remember reading about Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean), and how he drives the piss out of a purple McLaren daily driver he has owned for years and eventually cracked up. He paid a ton and got it fixed and continued driving it. That was several years ago in the UK.

Just today saw an ad online for a 2008 BugattI Veyron F/S in Quebec with under 5000 km on the odometer. What a shame the owner couldn't bring it upon himself to actually enjoy driving it for all these years. Like people that collect toys still in the bubble pack for decades.

209.

I'm not a fan of them speeding through public streets regardless of how good the engine sounds.

Here's hoping for a million mile LFA, though.

You gotta stop assuming the world looks at cars the way you do. He bought it for $800,000, crashed it twice with insurance paying out some $1,000,000+ the second time to fix it. A quote from Rowan: "I bought it for the quality of thinking that went into its design, and now it has become a thing of value, it is time for it to be enjoyed by someone else" selling it for near $10,000,000 in profit.

The bubble wrapped toys are a perfect example: some people don't need to interact with a thing to appreciate and gain satisfaction from collecting it. No shame in that.

I just feel sorry for people that are rich enough to buy these cars but can't/wont actually drive them as they were designed to be. They are in essence being appreciated as a piece of art. But TO ME the true art is how they perform. Granted if they are trailered to the track they will never accumulate many miles (that's OK), but they will be driven as they were engineered to be.

When you have so much money, finding a place to park the money can become a problem, so many people park the money in cars.

I think this is lost on a lot of folks. At some point, you have to put money in other investments besides stocks, banks, etc. You need "real" assets and "art", including the right cars, can be one of those things.

Personally though, even with the money, I couldn't collect cars. I couldn't keep myself from driving the value out of them, and the insurance for a high dollar car you actually drive must be astronomical.

I don't know. My mind has already blocked out all of Monday due to the trauma.
