tl;dr
Lightweight powertrain components have minimal performance benefits, they allow the system to accelerate quicker, but that's not actually going to translate to a significantly faster straightline speed. Feel free to google and look up the formulas and what have you, but an apt analogy would be trying to water your garden, your typical garden hose is a little 1" diameter hose and a spray nozzle, upgrading a driveshaft, flywheel, pulleys, etc. is like upgrading the hose and spray nozzle to firefighter specs, the water is still restricted back at the spigot and you'll get the same trickle out.

However, upgrading the back end, making the house push a bunch more water to spray out the spigot will have a greater effect than a big hose and nozzle.

Actual short version:
Do what you want, it'll change the feel, some people like stuff like that and aren't really trying to maximize their performance/$ imo $400 for a driveshaft would be better spent on OFT/ECUTek, and under the mattress for a header or FI.

As my diff had to come out to update the FD ratio anyway I figured I'd use the labour to my advantage and install an aluminium driveshaft at the same time. The install for it ended up being free.

Would I have gone to the trouble to swap out the shaft on its own. Probably not, but it seemed like a good thing to get done at the same time.

Not sure of the exact weights involved, but I recall it being like half the weight of the OEM one and boy was that OEM one heavy when I pulled it out the boot to store in my garage. That alone made me feel really good about my decision.

Aluminum shaft feels much better when shifting especially from a stop. Stock shaft has slop in the joint. I love mine. Definitely worth it. Minimal performance boost

Well I know it isn't going to make my car any faster, I'm not a 17 year old high school kid. My transmission is already out my car and i have the chance to get one ordered and put in for free from the shop. I myself think it would be worth it also, just wanted some $0.02 from a few ppl to see what they think.

It's about an hour (if that) install with the transmission in the car. It was one of the first mods I did and it makes me happy every time I start moving
