Change HID bulb on BRZ

Hi All, I've tried searching, but I haven't been able to find anything.

I was wondering if someone has a DIY or an excerpt from the service manual on how to change the OEM HID bulb on the BRZ?

I plan to purchase some 5000K HID bulbs to match my LED fogs, and want to know what is involved in switching the bulbs out.

Thanks in advance.

twist off plastic dust cover behind the housing, twist off the bulb connector, unclip the two-pronged metal clip, pull out the bulb. it's extremely straight forward. to install, do it in the reverse order

Hmmmm sounds simple enough. Thanks! Looks like I will be ordering my new bulbs soon then.

make sure you install your bulbs the correct way and ensure that they are seated properly before packing up. the wire that is running parallel to the bulb should be facing the bottom when you insert it and there should be little to no wiggle on the bulb once seated in the housing. then clip it in place and wiggle it again to make sure it doesn't move. no need to use too much force

I also forgot to mention that there are notches on the bulb that line up with the bulb seat so twist the bulb until they sit flush if they don't go in all the way on the first time. the wire should still be facing down. double check your HID bulb and make sure it's a D4S bulb otherwise it won't fit for our car. and also clean the bulb with an alcohol wipe (most bulbs will come with a small wipe) and let it air out a little before installing. the residue will burn off after using the bulb for a while. and it also takes some time for the bulb to break in, so don't worry if the colors look slightly off when you first install them. if the colors are majorly off, then one of the bulbs might be defective or you bought some cheap china-made ones.

that should be everything you need to know.

Where do you get a 8000K D4S HID bulb? I like to match my factory HID with my 8000K fog lights with HID kit too.

why 8000K? you will get less visibility when you go that high. a lot of people go 6000K which is still slightly blue and it impacts visibility minimally. a sweet spot would be 5500K.

if it's a show car though, then go all out on it. just pointing out a potential safety hazard for you.

Our Philips Germany 6200K HID bulbs are quite popular and customer feedback has been phenomenal!

To be practical, we would recommend HID bulbs in the 5000K or 6000K range. With HID bulb colors, it really boils down to personal preference.

After researching HID bulbs, I've settled on the Osram Xenarc 66440 CBI bulbs. I haven't found a bad review of them yet. They are a direct OEM replacement with the output lumen of a 4300K bulb with 5000-5500K colour.

They have already shipped. I'll post photos (and a video if I have time) of what they look like when they arrive.

the CBI's are definitely a great choice. hopefully you didn't buy them from eBay since there are knockoffs floating around on there. TRS sells legit stuff so if you bought it from there, you don't need to be worried. I bet you'll love the CBI's. the blue cut off should be more apparent with them and if you ever swap out to a clear lens on your projectors, it will be even more awesome that you might get addicted to driving at night. I know I would find any reason to take my old car out at night after doing a projector retrofit on it.

I loved the cut off on my retrofit and plan on swapping out to a set of clear lens and CBI's on my BRZ. the projectors (RX350) on these cars are extremely good. I had FX-R's on my old car.

I'm aware of the counterfeits on eBay and even other vendors online. I bought them from The Retrofit Source (the link I posted) who is a genuine dealer for Osram. I will see what the output is first before deciding to do anything with the lens.
