I just said on all Mercedes Benz ecus thats not the case....but then again its different for each ecu in each car as different conditions come into play.....

Hmmm, this is making me nervous.

Mine definitely changes tone at 4-5K. In threads about the OFT it was stated to be due to rapidly changing VVT (I think, I can't quite recall) and therefore normal.

I've also noticed a little sound that seems odd/irregular, doesn't happen all the time, is audible from inside, and is coming from the passenger side of the engine bay. It could be a very minor version of the same sound in the video.

Don't sweat it! If it doesn't happen all the time it is not likely the same thing as that would not come and go.
These engines make noises that would have me pulled to the side of the road in a second with and old V8 but are just the norm for the boxer!!!

Yeah, I definitely find this to be a noisier off and on car than I've had previously. It still drives strong and feels normal through the rev range, so I have to guess I'm just being paranoid!

Mine too!! :o

Hmm.. mine is making some noises too. Only when the car is warmed up about 20 minutes.
Been going on for over 3 months not getting worse so i took it to Toyota to check it out, (no scion dealers near us).
Report from Toyota:
Cause: ticking noise from high pressure fuel pump
Correction: replaced fuel pump as per tsb 3863

Shortly after driving around warming up the engine i hear the noise again.
Back to the dealer next week probably, this time with the car warmed up and hopefully the noise going. I may bring them some of the information on this forum for them to think about :P

Here is a youtube of the noise:

Would like to offer some words of encouragement but that does not sound promising!
If you have a Subaru dealer nearby you may be better off taking it there then a Toyota one that does not deal with the FRS all the time. The Toyota techs may never have had to deal with the boxer engine before and have no clue what they are looking for.

Definately sounds like my issue.

My noise only happens when it's warm too and NOT when it's cold.

This is exactly what happened to me the other day. Drove home from Delaware and then at stoplights the noise was terrible. No performance issues at all. Not really wanting to do anything with this yet. The fact that it only happens hot, and happened to me after prolonged high speed driving makes me wonder if it's a VVT issue.
