Picked up another car.. 94 Toyota MR2 Turbo

I've been looking at MR2s for a very long time and for whatever reason it just never worked out. This time, it finally did. I picked up a 94 SMG Turbo from Portland and drove it back to Tampa, FL over 5 days. The car def needs some things fixed here and there. Cruise control did try to kill me (more on that later). Otherwise, it's a pretty solid car and I'm happy with it so far

The MR2 has a Gen3 swap but is fairly stock otherwise (intake, exhaust, intercooler, downpipe).

Some random pics of the car and the drive home. iPhone pics, some are messed up in orientation, too lazy to rotate...

Left the M3 sitting in the airport for awhile.. over a week..

Flying to PDX...

Drinking at Deschutes

First time driving it

Dyno at KO:

MR2 pics:

MR2 next to a fat girl:

MURICA! - Bates Motel sign

Finally home...

Long term the BRZ is going away and the MR2 will take over the weekend/occasional driver usage.. no car payment.. more power.. no nannies... should be eligible for collector car insurance so insurance should be less than 1/3rd the cost.

Phew that's a roadtrip, can't wait to do that myself.

I don't think you'll have many regrets.

I wish the last gen MR2 looked more like this gen. Much lighter and better handling, but pretty ugly... Would probably be an awesome track car with a turbo K20/k24 though!

How did the cruise control try to kill you? I feel a good anicdotal tale coming on.

Edit; if it has something to do with the bates motel sign +5 style points.

The trip was good, but I wish I had the extra time from work (vacation time wasn't an issue, workload/deadlines were) to really explore the country. That should be a 10 day trip.

I thought about this before too.. but convertible.. if I wanted that again I'd buy another S2K.. or Miata with F20C swap..

I was using cruise, came up on slower traffic, held coast which matched speed of the SUV in front about 1 car length back, released coast and cruise went to WOT. I went for the brake pedal but the pedal box is slightly offset more to the right than my other cars and hit clutch instead. Stopped accelerating but had a good closure rate on the SUV and no room, so drove it into the ditch at 80MPH.. with right foot on the clutch.. used e-brake to gently slow it down, took it out of gear, released clutch, back on road, change shorts, continue...

BEAUTIFUL!

My last car was a '92 MR2. Bone stock with 200k miles. Wonderful driver and never gave me any trouble. The driver's view of the front wings is surprisingly similar to the twins!

I think the MR2 was just a little more "fun" but handling was unpredictable at the limit compared with the little Scion. Those are such fun little cars and yours looks fantastic with those modified air ducts. Congratulations!
