@Scooby South

I have a couple questions, as someone who is JUST getting into AutoX and would love to be competitve in the STX class (since I've already locked myself in there).

What would you consider the best mods for STX you have done to 'eliminate the car from the equation?'

I also was wondering why the 4-2-1 long header when compared to other options?

And lastly, how much do you like the coils? I am in the market.

For Reference I have:
Wilwood BBK, 6pot front and 4pot rear, SS brake lines, Motul RBF fluid
Perrin 3" resonated w/ 3" catted Front Pipe, stock header/OP.
Perrin 19mm front sway w/ poly endlinks
Perrin intake w/ KnN drop in
17x9 +42 Mach V Awesomes wrapped in RS3 v2's (on order, to meet the 200 treadwear req. next year)

And that's about it. I'm pretty competitve already locally, but would like to be able to show up anywhere and do okay.

Hi there.. couple of things.. My car is built to the letter of the STX ruleset. theres not much left I can/need to do. When I say that I want to eliminate the car from the equation, it means that I can eliminate the car because it is fully built with plenty of adjustment to be able to get the car right. Setup takes lots of trial and error. So I can adjust on the car to get it right for the particular course/conditions and then ....after that..Concentrate on "ME" the driver.. knowing the car is under foot and not having to try and figure out why the car 'isn't' performing and not being able to concentrate on "Driving".. if that makes sense..

4/2/1 header gives you some "off the corner" umph to get it going.. Longer tube headers produce the power/torque in a lower RPM range, so you can "pull" off the corner.. Short tube headers rotates the power to the right on the RPM scale which translates to a Higher RPM power band...Vs the longtube which produces it more to the left of the RPM gaining pickup vs. Topend..

and lastly.. coils are somewhat personal.. But most top level drivers get "Dual" Adjustable Coilovers so they can fine tune Rebound and Compression. Rebound only coils..... IE: BC, fortune auto, any other Cheap Chinese brand.. tend not to be the best option for Autox due to the needed adjust-ability for the different conditions. Popular Dual Adjustable Coilovers are a bit more expensive.. but provide the best feedback... Some examples of are MCS, KW, Cusco, Eibach, Bilstien, etc... Depends on how serious you want your build to become.. http://www.motioncontrolsuspension.com/

With my car pretty much to the letter of the rules.. expect about 20K on costs.. mild builds are about 7k or so.. again depending on the components you use. Do yourself a favor.. Make a spreadsheet of what your budget is.. Include the big ticket stuff, Tune, headers/exhaust, Suspension, wheels and tires...and Misc stuff like the rear Diff (LSD). Bushings. Alignments, etc...and see where you land.

It looks like your on your way to a decently prepped car.. But don't just add parts to the car just to add parts.. Plan your build according.. and read the rules... ALOT.. I re-visit the rules everytime I add something to the car.. again mine is a full National build..but should apply locally also

LMK if I can help

Not trying to take this off topic or turn it into an advertisement, but if someone wants to put together an entry level STX prep package let me know, Terry can probably get you a great deal through Maximal Performance. He worked with me and got me a great deal on my CS prep.

And Ill wait for Annie to get sick of her car and try to be first to scoop up the salvage parts .

@Scooby South, honestly, with a great tune, do you think the full exhaust, BBK, coilovers (I really want Ohlins) and sway bars (are 19mm front and 16mm rear big enough?) Are enough to be competitve? Along with the 245 tires on 9" rims?

How much do you like the LSD?

What level of competition?? Locally...Regionally or Nationally..
With the mods that you have and the ones you have planned.. you should be fine locally and Regionally..Nationally.. When the competition is within a second of each other from 1st thru 10th.. then every 1/10th counts.. My suggestion is to learn the car.. with your current plan.. learn to adjust on it.. learn to drive it.. and yes 245's on 9's are fine.. some national level guys run the same setup. I would suggest doing all the bushings as well. (maybe $500) total.. and it will tighten up any loose ends....Literally ...if you look at my mod list above.. you will see.. theres not much left to do..

I would also suggest some driver instruction along the way.. Evolution or similar to get the most out of your experience..

You should be adequate with what you have to become competitive ... ..Remember enjoy yourself.. and LEARN what the car is telling you.
